PHILADELPHA, Pa. - The seventh-ranked Penn squash team proved to have too much firepower, as the Navy squash team (15-4) fell short in its upset bid against the Quakers Wednesday evening at the Ringe Squash Courts in Philadelphia. The Quakers improved to 5-4 following their 7-2 victory over the 15th-ranked Mids.
Navy's Michael Kacergis (Fr / Malvern, Pa.) improved to 18-1 on the year by way of a 6-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-0 victory over Penn sophomore Max Reed at the #6 position, while second-year standout Jamie Kjorlien (Greenwich, Conn.) overcame a 2-0 deficit to win three in a row and win his match against senior BJ Lemmon at the #7 spot.
Navy's Jack Herold (Jr / Chicago, Ill.) and Senen Ubina (So / Greenwich, Conn.) who play the #1 and #2 positions, respectively, put up a strong fight against their foes, but ultimately lost in four games.
"We put forth a good effort against a talented Penn team," said Navy head coach Craig Dawson.
The Midshipmen return to action on Saturday when they play host to the nation's second-ranked team, Yale. The two teams will open play at 4:00 pm at the Halsey Field House International Squash Courts on the grounds of the Naval Academy.
