ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy gymnastics team kicks off the dual portion of its 2017 schedule with a one-on-one competition against ECAC rival, William & Mary on Saturday. Beginning at 2 p.m., the No. 13 Mids (5-4) will play host to the No. 15 Tribe (2-1) at Macdonough Hall. Both teams competed last weekend in the Navy Open.

Last season, Navy and William & Mary met twice as part of a home-and-home series. Each squad earned a victory as the Mids won at home on Feb. 21, 420.15-409.6 before the Tribe won in Williamsburg on March 6, 408.8-406.6.

Navy's 420.15 scoring output at home was the fourth-highest in program history. In terms of individual events, the Mids' 72.65 on floor exercise, 72.15 on rings, 72.3 on vault and 70.25 on high bar are all top-three in the record books.

Last Time Out

On Saturday, January 21, the Mids won its third straight Navy Open title in competition against William & Mary, Springfield and Temple on Saturday. Event-best results on the five of the six apparatuses led the host Mids to victory with a final score of 397.65 points.

William & Mary finished second with 390.60 points to barely edge out Springfield College at 389.7. Temple rounded out the field with a score of 366.65.

Three strong all-around performances by Navy gymnasts spearheaded the Mids' effort on Saturday as Tanner West was first with a 79.9 six-event score. Jonny Tang tied for second with 78.8 points, while Noah Beeman was just one point behind in fourth at 77.8.

Lucas Beltran (floor exercise-14.1 points), West (rings-13.75) and Beeman (high bar-13.35) all finished first in their respective events.

For his high-level results across the board as an all-around competitor West was recognized by the ECAC as the conference's Gymnast of the Week.
