LONDON, Ontario - It came down to the fifth game of the final match for 18th-ranked Western Ontario (4-2) to pull the upset against the #14 Navy squash team (13-3) Saturday afternoon at the WSRC Courts in London, Ontario. A raucous crowd was in attendance for what marked the first match at Western Ontario against an American college in a decade.

"It went down to the wire, but it was a tough loss for the team. Overall, I thought we played well," said Navy head coach Craig Dawson.

Six of the nine matches went into extra games, including three decided in five. Senen Ubina (So / Greenwich, Conn.) extended his winning streak to seven in a row by defeating Western Ontario's David Mill in five games, 12-10, 7-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, at the No. 2 position. Moving down one spot to #4, Dylan Sweeney (New York, N.Y.) bounced back after dropping his opening game, 11-7, to win the next three for a 3-1 victory over Stefan Houbtchev. Earning his team-best 15th win of the season was Michael Kacergis (Fr / Malvern, Pa.) who swept Adam Vanwyngaarden, 12-10, 11-4, 14-12. The Mids' final win of the day came from Sam McCartney (Jr / Chicago, Ill.) who came into the match having played just three matches this season. McCartney earned his way onto the ladder over the holiday break by way of challenge matches. McCartney, who is now 22-6 over his career, defeated Rayaan Kurji in three games, 11-5, 12-10, 11-5.

Meanwhile, the Mids dropped five-game nail-biters at the #1 and #8 spots. Jack Herold (So / Chicago, Ill), who plays the #1 position for Navy, put together a valiant effort, fighting his way back from two game down to knot the match and force a fifth game. He would succumb to Matthew Henderson in the fifth, 11-5.

The Midshipmen will be back in action on Sunday at 1:00 pm when they face the Ontario All-Stars in an exhibition match.
