Following a spectacular performance that saw freshman Jared Prince earn Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the 2017 All-Academy Championship presented by USAA over the weekend, the Safety Harbor, Fla., native has been named the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week.

Seeded #2 at 141 pounds, Prince won his opening two matches of the tournament by way of fall. He pinned Norwich's Jonathan Graziane in 41 seconds and followed it up by pinning Air Force's John Twomey, who would go on to place third, in four minutes even to earn a spot in the finals. Prince, ranked 18th at the time of the match, would not only face Academy rival Logan Everett of Army West Point, he would face an opponent who was the defending All-Academy champion who was also ranked #16 nationally.

Prince, however, would not be denied in his first All-Academy Championship appearance as he scored the match's first points at 1:44 in the opening period and never looked back. He held a 4-1 lead after the first period and a 6-2 lead after the second. He turned in his second win over a ranked wrestler this season by outscoring Everett 8-0 in the final period and tacking on a point for riding time to earn the 15-2 major decision.

Prince was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler by a vote of the eight participating coaches and was also the recipient of the award for most falls in the tournament.

Boasting a 19-6 overall mark and a 5-0 dual meet record, Prince pushed up to #13 in the Intermat rankings this week.

The Mids will be back on the mat Friday evening when they play host to Old Dominion in what will mark Navy's final home dual of the season. Action is set for 7:30 pm at Alumni Hall.
