PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Navy women's track and field team concluded competition at the annual ECAC Championships on Sunday in Princeton, N.J. The meet was shortened from three days to two days due to inclement weather in the area.
"The coaching staff was very proud of our athletes, especially the underclassmen," head coach Carla Criste said. "The bad weather impeded some of our field performances, however, the track athletes really stepped it up and had some impressive performances."
The weekend began for the Midshipmen with Claire Ostrowski setting a personal best in the 5,000-meter run. The plebe's time of 16:50.12 was the second best time in Navy history and beat her previous best time by seven seconds.
Stephanie Simon and Morgan Giraud also competed in the discus on Friday. Simon posted a distance of 42.34m (138ft-11in) to finish in 14th, while Giraud placed 23rd with a throw of 39.49m (129-07).
Saturday's events were moved to Sunday due to inclement weather in the area.
The Midshipmen had three student-athletes competing once competition resumed.
In the pole vault, Maggie Ruud notched a height of 3.55m (11-07.75) to finish in 13th, while Ashanti Curry recorded a distance of 12.93m (42-05.25) in the shot put to place 14th in the event.
Brittany Burg notched a time of 1:02.53 in the 400m hurdles to finish in 23rd. It was the junior's fourth fastest time of the year.
Navy returns to action on Thursday, May 25 as the Midshipmen travel to Lexington, Ky. to take part in the NCAA East Regional.
