Men’s Soccer Welcomes American to Annapolis on Wednesday night

Navy continues Patriot League play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against the Eagles

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men's soccer team (1-7-1, 0-2-0 Patriot League) wraps up its stretch of back-to-back home matches on Wednesday night as it takes on American (1-4-3, 0-1-1 PL) at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility at 7 p.m.
 
The Midshipmen come into the week following a 4-1 loss at home to Loyola on Saturday night. Freshman Jacob Williams tallied the lone goal for Navy as he now leads the team with two goals and four points through the first nine matches of the year.
 
Logging in the Time
Matt Nocita has logged the most minutes for Navy this season playing in the center of the Midshipmen's back line. The freshman is the lone field player to play all 837 minutes for Navy this season. Ian Bramblett has clocked in all 837 minutes for the Midshipmen in goal. Sophomore's Toni Adewole and Wyatt Millard are the only other players for Navy to play over 800 minutes this season. Adewole is second amongst field players with 820 minutes and Millard is just behind with 811 minutes. All four individuals are still underclassmen for Navy. 
 
Williams is nearing the 800-minute mark with 711 minutes. Prior to the Loyola match where he played 75 minutes, Williams had played at least 85 minutes five-straight matches.
 
Shooting Display
The Midshipmen have racked up a total of 105 shots this season and they rank fourth in the Patriot League with 11.7 shots per match. Loyola leads the league with an average of 14.4 shots a game. Navy's 11.7 shots per contest is nearly two shots better than its average from last season (9.8). The Midshipmen finished with 167 shots in 17 matches in 2017.
 
Williams has led the charge on offense for Navy with a total of 25 shots and his average of 2.8 shots a game are fourth in the Patriot League.
 
Scouting American
American comes into the week with a record of 1-4-3 following its first league points in a 1-1 draw against Bucknell this past weekend. The Eagles started the season with a 2-1 victory over George Mason at home, but have gone winless over their last five matches. 
 
Of the 10 goals American has scored this season, it has had four different goal scorers with Fabio Massaro leading the way with four goals. Jerry Zouantcha is just behind Massaro with three goals. Tim Neumann has been the offensive facilitator for the Eagles with three assists on the year.
 
All-Time Series Against American
In the all-time series between the Midshipmen and Eagles, American leads the series 12-10-8. Navy has not beat the Eagles since the 2014 season when the Midshipmen earned a 2-0 victory. Navy has fared well at home against American winning seven of 14 matches in Annapolis and only dropping three. 
 
Last season, the Eagles grabbed a 3-2 victory at home over Navy in overtime. The two teams traded goals throughout the second half after a scoreless first stanza. Millard scored the game-tying goal for the Midshipmen in the 65th minute, but Nick Dimitrijevic completed his hat trick with a goal in the 93rd minute for American. The last time the two teams met in Annapolis was in 2014 and they played to a scoreless draw. 
 
Parking / Shuttle
Fans are reminded that the general public does not have access to drive their vehicles on to the U.S. Naval Academy. Fans may park at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for $5 and take a shuttle that will run every 10 minutes starting one hour prior to the match (6:00 PM) and will continue running until one hour after it is completed (~10:00 PM). Fans 18 and over need a government-issued photo ID. Enter Gate 5 off Taylor Ave. to park at the stadium. Dogs are not permitted inside the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
 
Free Admission
New for the 2018 season all soccer contests at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility will be free of charge.
 
Opening kick on Wednesday night is set for 7 p.m. from the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
