Women's Soccer Readies for 2018 Star Match versus Army

Mids are 2-1-2 in last five meetings with Black Knights

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The 2018 Star Match between the Army and Navy women's soccer teams lies ahead this Friday night at 7 p.m. in Annapolis. A key part of the Star Series presented by USAA, the Mids will host their service academy rivals from New York in a matchup of two of the Patriot League's top-five teams. Navy comes into the contest at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility with a 8-4-3 record and a 4-1 mark in Patriot League play, while Army will enter at 6-3-5, 2-2-1 in league action.

The game will be live streamed by Navy on the Patriot League Network with live stats accompanying the broadcast as well.

Last Time Out
Navy dominated Delaware State from the majority of the 90 minutes in Monday's contest at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Outshooting the Hornets (2-10-2) by a 30-8 margin, the Mids (8-4-3) posted a 3-1 victory. With the score 3-0 through 87 minutes, Delaware State spoiled Navy's shutout prospect with a late goal in the 88th minute.
 
Kristina DzhandzhapanyanRegan McQuain and Hannah Miller all found their way into the box score on Monday with their first respective goals of 2018.

In the 3-1 victory, Navy outshot Delaware State, 30-8 with an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Mids also held a 9-1 margin in corner kicks.
 
22 Midshipmen saw the field on Monday. In goal, Sydney Fortson and Molly Swiger split time with Fortson earning the victory with 67:40 minutes of scoreless action.

Navy vs. Army
Friday will be the 30th meeting between the two schools in a series that began in Navy's second year of varsity existence in 1994 ... Over the first 29 matchups, Navy is 14-11-4 versus Army ... Starting on Sept. 20, 1994 and going through Nov. 8, 1997, Army took the first five games of the series ... Games six through 11 went the way of Mids from Oct. 30, 1998 through Oct. 26, 2001 ... 2017 Recap
The 2017 installment of the Army-Navy Star Match for women's soccer saw two teams battle for 110 minutes of physical competition at West Point on October 13. When the final whistle blew the Mids and Black Knights teams walked off Clinton Field with a 0-0 draw. The game saw momentum swings throughout and threatening scoring chances that tested each other's defense.

In the contest, Navy outshot Army, 12-9 with a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Mids held a 4-2 margin in corner kicks. Ash Fairow and Alex Jackson each recorded a team-high two shots on goal. Sydney Fortson made four saves in goal for Navy.

In a true testament of the complete 110-minute effort, Navy had seven members of its starting lineup play every minute of the contest. All 11 played 85 or more minutes.

Parking / Shuttle / Ticket Information
Fans are reminded that the general public does not have access to drive their vehicles on to the U.S. Naval Academy. Fans may park at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and take a shuttle that will run every 10 minutes starting one hour prior to the game (6:00 PM) and will continue running until one hour after it is completed (~10:00 PM). Fans 18 and over need a government-issued photo ID. Enter Gate 5 off Taylor Ave. to park at the stadium. Dogs are not permitted inside the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
