Deegan Leads Mids to Ninth-Place Finish at Georgetown Intercollegiate

Final Results

BEALLSVILLE, Md.
- A week after making his collegiate debut, freshman Chad Deegan (Costa Mesa, Calif.) strung together his second straight top-15 performance in leading the Navy men's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Georgetown Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday at Four Streams Golf Course. The Mids  shot a 36-over par 888 over 54 holes of action.

Princeton led the entire tournament, opening up with a 2-stroke advantage over Butler in the opening round and eventually stretching to outdistance second-place Seton Hall by six strokes. The Tigers claimed the team title with a 4-over par 856 (282-277-297), followed by Seton Hall, 862), Georgetown (868), Butler (871), Saint Joseph's (875) and Florida Atlantic (875) rounding out the top five.

Deegan made his first appearance for the Mids last week at the Bucknell Invitational where he shot the team's second-lowest score (+3, 143) en route to a 14th-place finish. He turned in another solid performance this week with a 4-over par 217 to pace Navy in 13th. Deegan opened the tournament with a 1-under par 70, but nearly slid out of the top top in the second round when he shot a 4-over par 75. The rookie recovered nicely by closing out the final 18 holes with a 1-over par 72 to push back up in the standings.

Second-year standout Ward Wilkinson (Ashland, Va.), meanwhile, had one of his best showings in a Navy uniform. After opening the competition with a 3-over par 74, Wilkinson shot the Mids' low score in the second round at par. He concluded the tournament with a 2-over par 73 to place 17th with a 5-over par 218. It was his first career top-20 finish.

Rounding out the grid for the Mids were senior Matthew Starobin (Davidsonville, Md.) in 35th with a 10-over par 223, senior Griffin Peters (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) in 52nd with a 17-over par 230 and newcomer Nicholas Klock (Morago, Calif.) in 68th with a 32-over par 245.

While not a member of Navy's scoring lineup, freshman David Miccoli (Ludlow, Mass.) made his collegiate debut playing as an individual. Among those playing on an individual basis, he carded the second-lowest score of the tournament with an 8-over par 221 and was 28th overall.

The Mids will be right back in action on Friday when they travel to the Lehigh Valley to close out the fall campaign at the Lehigh Invitational.
