Men’s Soccer Hosts Patriot League Tilt Against Boston University on Saturday

Navy plays its second-to-last home match at 8 p.m. on Saturday night

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men's soccer team (1-11-1, 0-5 Patriot League) is back at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility on Saturday night to host Boston University (3-8-3, 2-2-1 PL) at 8 p.m.

The Midshipmen have just four matches left in the regular season with all four contests coming against Patriot League foes. Navy has just two more home matches on tap as it hosts Boston on Saturday and then the Midshipmen host Colgate for Senior Day on Sunday, October 28 at noon.

Last Time Out
In Navy's last match, it suffered its eighth-straight loss following a narrow 1-0 decision against James Madison -- who is two spots outside of the national poll -- on Wednesday night. Both teams had scoring chances in the first 10 minutes of the contest, but neither team got a lucky bounce. However, the Dukes recorded the match's only goal just as the affair turned into the 14th minute off of a corner kick.

James Madison had the majority of the scoring chances with 12 corner kicks and an 11-6 edge in shots in the match. Jacob Williams recorded the lone shot on goal for the Midshipmen, which came in the seventh minute of the contest. Williams and Bayne Bentley finished tied for the team lead with two shots in the match.

Senior captain Michael Hurley made the only save in the contest for the Midshipmen after coming into play goalkeeper in the second half. Despite allowing 11 shots in the match, the Navy defense only allowed the Dukes to record two shots on goal throughout the 90 minutes.

The Midshipmen
On the season, Williams has been the offensive leader for the Midshipmen with four goals and eight points. Williams has been Navy's only goal scorer over the last three matches. Of the 11 goals the Midshipmen have scored this season, they have had seven different goal scorers with Williams and Diego Manrique the lone individuals with multiple goals.

Navy has had three different goalkeepers see time in goal this season with Ian Bramblett playing 837 of the 1,197 minutes this season. He leads the team with a 1.72 goals-against average and 31 saves. Tyler Fahning has started the last four contests playing 315 minutes and making 10 stops. Hurley made his first collegiate appearance on Wednesday night, playing 45 minutes and stopping the only shot on goal he faced.

In the last contest for the Midshipmen, they started eight freshmen and three sophomores. A quartet of underclassmen are the only individuals for Navy to reach the 1,000-minute mark this season. Matt Nocita leads the way playing all 1197:22 for the Midshipmen this season. Toni Adewole and Wyatt Millard are just behind with 1,180 and 1,171 minutes, respectively. Williams rounds out the quartet playing 1,123 minutes this season.

Scouting Boston University
The Terriers come into the weekend with a record of 3-8-3 overall following a 2-0 loss at home to Northeastern to cap off their non-league slate. In the Patriot League, Boston sits in the final transition spot to the postseason at No. 6 with a 2-2-1 mark. The Terriers are winless in their last three matches overall, with two coming in the Patriot League. Boston suffered a 3-1 loss at Loyola and tied Lafayette, 0-0, prior to its match against Northeastern.

The duo of Kari Petursson and Satchel Cortet have guided the Terrier offense this season with seven points each. Matt McDonnell was the offensive spark for Boston to start the season with six goals in the first five matches of the season, but he has not played in the Terriers' last nine matches due to injury. Boston has split time in goal between Mike Bernardi and William Bonnelyche. The duo has combined for 57 saves and a .704 save percentage. Bernardi has started nine contests this season and notched a 1.37 goals-against average, along with 43 saves to pace the pair this season.

All-Time Series Against Boston University
In a brief series between Navy and Boston, the Terriers have controlled the series winning four of the five matchups. The Midshipmen won the first meeting between the two programs in 2013, 1-0, but Boston has won the last four meetings against Navy.

Despite a 1-4-0 mark against the Terriers, it has been a close series with all five matches being decided by one goal. Navy has not scored against Boston since the 2015 season, following a pair of 1-0 decisions in favor of the Terriers in 2016 and 2017. Saturday will also be the first meeting between Navy and Boston in Annapolis since the 2015 season.

Last Time Against Boston University
In the last meeting between Boston and Navy, the Terriers had a strong first 45 minutes offensively with a 10-1 edge in shots at the half. Boston also scored in the 25th minute following a failed clearance attempt by the Midshipmen.

Navy tried to rally in the second half with seven shots, but it placed just one on goal in the 1-0 loss on the road to the Terriers. The Midshipmen finished with two shots on goal, one of which came from current Mid Diego Manrique.
