BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Navy women's golf team finished off the fall portion of its schedule on Monday afternoon after finishing third out of 10 teams at the Lehigh Invitational on the Grace Course at the Saucon Valley Country Club.
The Midshipmen shot over 310 in back-to-back rounds for the first time all season and finished with a team score of 58-over par 634 and finished five shots back of tournament winner and host Lehigh who shot a 53-over 634. Navy had three individuals record top-five finishes with
Shannon Gould (Fr., O'Fallon, Mo.),
Tori Smith (Fr., Arlington, Tenn.) and
Morgan Frazier (Jr., Mechanicsburg, Pa.) finishing third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
"We competed in some tough conditions this week with cold temperatures and swirling winds, but everyone played in the same conditions," head coach Nadia Ste-Maria said. "Unfortunately we had to count some high scores during this tournament. I am very proud of Shannon who played well and managed her game very well. Tori and Morgan also fought hard this week to join Shannon in the top five. Overall, we had a great fall and I am very pleased with what we have done. I am hoping we use this a learning curve heading into the spring."
Gould -- who competed as an individual -- was the top Navy finisher in the field and posted a 7-over par 151, which was third overall. She finished two strokes out of first place. After firing a 5-over par 77 on the first day, Gould cut three strokes off her score in round two with a 2-over par 74, which was the lowest round for the Midshipmen this tournament. Gould was the lone player in the field to play under par on the par three holes as she finished at 1-under par. The freshman also led the tournament with 25 pars.
