ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After a brief two-game homestand to start its 2018-19 season, the Navy women's basketball team will hit the road for its first contest away from Alumni Hall when it goes head-to-head with Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off between the Mids (1-1) and Spartans (1-2) is set for 4 p.m. at Norfolk State's Joseph G. Echol Memorial Hall. These two teams met on the hardwood up in Annapolis, Md. on November 17, 2017 with the Mids victorious by a score of 70-51. Sunday will be a homecoming for a pair of Mids from Virginia Beach, senior team captain

Cayla Hannibal.
Sunday's game will be streamed live with a $5.00 per game subscription available for fans wishing to tune in. Norfolk State will also be providing live stats.
Last Time Out
Navy fell 72-48 to Marist College last Sunday at Alumni Hall. In a matchup of two of the East Coast's most successful mid-major programs in recent history, the visiting Red Foxes (1-0) used a scorching run of play in the second quarter to break out a 23-point lead over the Mids (1-1) by halftime. Navy played Marist nearly even in the second half, but were unable to overcome that early deficit.
Morgan Taylor and
Sophie Gatzounas led the Mids' individual scoring efforts with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
For the game, Marist outshot Navy, 42.4 (25-59) to 26.1 (18-69) from the field and 39.3 (11-28) to 16.7 (3-18) from three-point range. The Red Foxes outrebounded the Mids, 52-38. Navy's defense forced Marist into 19 turnovers on 12 steals. Gatzounas led the Mids with four steals, additionally she brought down six rebounds, that tied Taylor and
Jennifer Coleman for top-billing in that category for Navy.

The Mids and Spartans' rivalry is in its infant stages as the teams met for the first time in program history last November ... This will be the nine-ever contest between Navy and a MEAC school as the Mids are 6-2 all-time with matchups versus: Howard (2-1); Delaware State (2-0); North Carolina A&T (1-1) and Norfolk State (1-0) ... An opportunistic Navy women's basketball team used its defense to generate offense and separate itself from Norfolk State in a 70-51 victory on Nov. 17, 2017 in a non-conference matchup at Alumni Hall. After trailing 19-18 after one quarter of play, the Mids outscored the Spartans, 18-5 in the second period and 21-15 in the third to build out an 18-point lead on their way to the substantial victory. Navy forced Norfolk State into committing 20 turnovers and Navy held a 19-4 advantage for the game in points scored after turnovers.
