* Navy will face Maryland in the second game of the fifth annual Veterans Classic Friday night. Game one will feature Providence playing Wichita State. Both games will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network.
* Navy and Maryland will renew acquaintances for the first time since the second round of the 1985 NCAA Tournament. The Len Bias-led Terps defeated David Robinson and the Mids that day in Dayton, Ohio, 64-59.
* This is also the first meeting of the state schools to be played in Annapolis since Feb. 2, 1969.
* Navy has previously faced Michigan State and Ohio State from the Big Ten Conference during the Veterans Classic.
* Navy head coach
Ed DeChellis served as the head coach of Big Ten member-school Penn State, his alma mater, from the 2003-04 season through the 2010-11 campaign. His Nittany Lions faced the Terps just once, a 62-39 win by Maryland on Dec. 1, 2010.
