LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Navy track and field team opened up the 2018 outdoor season at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge hosted by UC San Diego at the Triton Track and Field Stadium in La Jolla, Calif. On the women's side, Navy posted six first place finishes to go along with 10 second place finishes. The Navy men's team produced nine first-place finishes, while also notching six second-place finishes.

"We got some solid marks to start the year," Director of Navy Track and Field Jamie Cook said after the meet. "We had a good time in California for our first outdoor meet of the season. I think we need to get better if we want to be the type of team that we've talked about being. That is not necessarily a bad thing, it is just my assessment of what I see and how we can improve. We have some good leaders on this team and they need to step up and continue to be present. It is a good first meet. That is why we came out (to California) - to learn and transition from indoors to outdoors."
