KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Navy men's basketball senior guard Shawn Anderson has been named to the 2017-18 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Give Back Team, the association announced Thursday.

The 2018 Give Back Team includes five student-athletes from NCAA Division I and five from NCAA Division II and III and NAIA, selected from a group of 69 nominated by college coaches and sports information directors across the country.

Representing NCAA Division I are Anderson, Brian Dawkins of Elon, Justin Johnson of Western Kentucky, Desmond Ringer of Mercer and Osinachi Smart of the College of Charleston.

Representing NCAA Division II-III and the NAIA are Alec Andrews of the California Institute of Technology, Seth Hawley of the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, Carnegie Mellon University's Ryan Maha, Nick Mutebi of Wayne State University and Tyler Robinson of Lyon College.

"The NABC Give Back Team provides an opportunity to recognize the exceptional selfless humanitarian acts performed by men's college basketball student-athletes," said NABC Executive Director Jim Haney. "The 10 young men selected for this honor have made significant contributions to assist those in need while helping lift the human spirit."

Anderson was also named to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Senior CLASS Award All-American First Team and the All-Patriot League First Team in 2017-18.

Anderson is very involved in community service and he co-founded the non-profit Forever Red Hurricanes with a high school classmate from New Castle, Pa. One program under the Forever Red Hurricanes organization is the `Canes Coats for Kids, which solicits donations from the community to provide warm coats for children in need. There is also an annual coat drive at the New Castle Basketball Tip-Off Classic.

Another program under the Forever Red Hurricanes is "Transitioning to Success," which is a mentor program that helps sixth-graders transition to seventh grade.

Anderson is also involved with a community service outreach group in Annapolis at a local housing authority complex.

Last year, Anderson received the Naval Academy's inaugural Community Service Athlete of the Year Award.

Anderson led Navy in scoring for the third-straight season at 13.3 points per game this year. He also shared the team lead in assists per game (3.4) and led Navy in minutes played per game (30.7). He ranked second on the team in rebounds (5.1) and steals (1.0).

Anderson was the only player to rank in the top-15 of the Patriot League statistical rankings in scoring, rebounding and assists this season. Anderson also became the first Navy player in program history to amass at least 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds and 300 career assists.

Anderson will leave Navy ranked in nine career stat categories in the program record book, including a ranking of 15th in career scoring (1,344) and fourth in career games played (125).

Anderson, Navy's team captain, will be commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy following his graduation as a quantitative economics major in May. His service assignment is Surface Warfare Officer and he will serve aboard the USS Pearl Harbor. The USS Pearl Harbor is a dock-landing ship and is based in San Diego.

Anderson is the second Midshipman to be named to the NABC Give Back Team. Kevin Alter received the honor in 2015 when the award was known as the Allstate NABC Good Works Team.
