The Navy women's soccer team will continue early season non-conference action this weekend with a pair of home games at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Coming off a 1-1 weekend to start their 2018 campaign, the Mids will welcome the Stetson Hatters on Friday at 5 p.m. before the University of Maryland Terps make the short trip over from College Park for a 6 p.m. tilt on Sunday. The matchup between Navy and Maryland will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
Navy vs. Stetson
The Mids and Hatters will meet for the third time in the history of the two programs. Navy holds a 2-0 all-time lead in the series as the Mids earned a 1-0 win on Sept. 1, 2006 followed by a 3-1 victory on Aug. 31, 2014. This will be the first-ever contest between the teams to be played in Annapolis. The most recent showdown between the Patriot League and Atlantic Sun competitors saw Navy receive goals from Morgan Dankanich, Clare MacAdam and Cat Macklin and hold advantages over Stetson in shots, 19-6, shots on goal, 8-2 and corner kicks 5-3
Navy vs. Maryland
One of the longest standing intrastate rivalries in Maryland, the Mids and Terps will go head-to-head for the 13th time on Sunday. After Maryland took the first eight matchups from 1996 through 2013, Navy has looked to balance out the rivalry with a 1-2-1 mark over the past four contests. The Mids' first win in the series came on Sept. 9, 2016 at home as they unleashed an offensive onslaught on their way to a 5-3 victory. In the win, Navy shot out to a 3-0 lead in the first half with goals by Alex Jackson, Clare MacAdam and Rachel Feldman. In a wild second half, the teams flip-flopped scores as Maryland made it 3-1 before Navy responded with a Cadie Higginson goal to return the lead to three at 4-1. Following another Maryland goal, MacAdam netted the fifth score of the game for Navy in the 82nd minute. Most recently, the Terps got the best of the Mids in an Aug. 20, 2017 matchup in College Park by a count of 3-0.
