CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Navy track and field team had four student-athletes named M-F Athletic Indoor Track and Field Patriot League Athletes of the Week as announced by the conference office. Evelyn Berecz (Downington, Pa.) and Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas) were named Female and Male Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, while Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas) was tabbed Female Track Athlete of the Week and Chloe Alfieri (Harvard, Mass.) was dubbed Female Rookie of the Week.
Berecz recorded a triple jump mark of 12.20m (40-00.50) to win the event and break the Navy school record. The distance was the longest in program history, topping Crystan McLymore (set in 2016) and current teammate Audrey Fernandez's mark (in 2018) of 12.14m (39-10.00). The distance in the triple jump was an ECAC qualifying mark. In addition, she finished third in the long jump with a distance of 5.59m (18-04.25), which was 0.01m shy of her team-long distance this season.
Thompson tallied 5,331 points to break the school record in the heptathlon, which was originally set by Ron Belany in 2008. He tallied personal bests performances in four of the seven events en route to setting the school record. Thompson notched PRs in the 60m (7.23), 1,000m (2:55.80), long jump (7.01m / 23-00.00), and high jump (1.92m / 6-03.50). He won the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and long jump, while finishing second in the high jump in the 10-person heptathlon field to finish in second place overall.
Edwards posted three top-10 finishes with a pair of ECAC qualifying marks, including notching a top-10 time in Navy's all-time records. She joined Alfieri, Bronte Bacchetta, and Lauren Heaton for an ECAC qualifying time of 3:50.40 in the 4x400m relay, which was the seventh fastest performance in Navy history. She notched an ECAC time of 56.34 in the 400m dash to finish second in the event, while claiming sixth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.32.
Alfieri notched three top-10 finishes on the day, including a pair of times that ranked in Navy's all-time top-10 and an ECAC qualifier. Alfieri clocked the fifth fastest time in school history in the 200m dash with a time of 24.99. Alfieri joined Edwards, Bacchetta, and Heaton in the 4x400m relay, combining for a collective ECAC time of 3:50.40, which is the seventh fastest time in Navy history.
