Anchored by the play of junior Michael Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y.), the Navy men's golf team (gold squad) placed seventh out of 14 teams at the Bucknell Invitational played Sunday and Monday at the par-70 Bucknell Golf Club. The Mids shot a 10-over par 290 in the opening round, but dipped over the final 18 where they posted an 18-over par 298 to finish 28-over (588).
    
Sorting Out The Finish
The host Bison led after the opening round, but were unable to hold on as fellow Patriot League foe Colgate pulled ahead to take the team title with a 12-over par 572 (+12). Colgate jumped from fifth to first after carding a 3-over par 283 over the final 18 holes. Meanwhile, Detroit Mercy began the final day in eighth with a 294, but shot a tournament low 280 to place second, just two strokes behind Colgate with a 574. Bucknell finished third with a 15-over par 575, followed by Holy Cross (578, +18) in fourth and Delaware (580, +20) in fifth.

Detroit Mercy's Jonathan Brillati covered the tournament with a 2-under par 138 to take individual medalist honors over four players who tied for second at par (140).

Navy Notes
Two of Navy's five players made their collegiate debut, while a third made his first appearance in a traditional tournament. Freshman J.D. Patterson (Bluffton, S.C.) finished just a stroke outside of the top 20, tying for 22nd with a 6-over par 146. Classmate Will Meshad (Atlanta, Ga.) opened the tournament with a 3-over par 73, but fell back to 39th in the standings with a 6-over par 76 in the final round for a 36-hole mark of 149. Rookie Keegan Shreves (Potomac, Md.) represented Navy in the annual Army-Navy Star Match a week ago, but the Bucknell Invitational marked his first tournament action. Shreves placed 66th with a 13-over par 153 (75-78).

Brennan was Navy's top finisher with his second career top-10 finish, an eighth-place 2-over par 142. He shot par on Monday and followed up with a 72 to post his best career 36-hole score.

Rounding out the Navy squad was second-year player David Miccoli (Ludlow, Mass.) who took 59th with a 12-over par 152.

The Navy blue squad opened play at the Phoenix Invitational on Monday and will conclude the 54-hole tournament on Tuesday. Navy will then make the trip to the Lehigh Valley this weekend to play in the Lehigh Invitational.
