ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy sprint football team (7-0, 4-0 CSFL-South) posted a 49-0 shutout victory over Collegiate Sprint Football League newcomer Alderson Broaddus (1-6, 0-4 CSFL-South) on Friday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game served as Senior Day for the team's 14 seniors.
"What a great way to honor our seniors, by playing for them and for the seniors to honor the team and the legacy that has been built and go out with a bang,"
Major Jason Dewald, USMC said after the game. "Alderson Broaddus was a tough team, and they came to play tonight. They battled the whole time. Big kudos to them for what they did during their first season. Now that the regular season is done, we can turn our total effort to the postseason and prepping for the CSFL Championship game."
Defensively, Navy posted its first shutout of the season. The Mids' defense came up big to keep Alderson Broaddus out of the end zone. The Midshipmen forced six punts, while forcing a pair of fumbles, intercepting five passes. Five different players – senior

Pat Guinan (Elmhurst, Ill.),
Adam Jennings (Scituate, Mass.),
Tom Jacobsen (San Francisco, Calif.), and
Lane Condie (Lovelock, Nev.) – picked off Alderson Broaddus passes.
Justin Newell (Chesapeake, Va.) picked up a Battler fumble and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.
Jack Thomas (Darnestown, Md.) also picked up a fumble recovery on the night.
Offensively, the Midshipmen tallied 383 total yards compared to 139 by the Battlers. Navy rushed for 237 yards, while passing for 146. The Mids tallied three rushing touchdowns, while adding a pair of score through the air. Senior
Caleb Champion (Milton, Fla.) led the charge with 101 yards on the ground with a touchdown.
Terry Totta (Kansas City, Kan.) tallied 61 yards with a score, while quarterback
Braydan Chmiel (Warrenton, Mo.) posted 48 yards on the ground with a TD. Through the air,
Jake Foss (Merced, Calif.) finished the game 7-for-12 with a touchdown strike. Chmiel was 4-for-8 for 43 yards.
William Leong (Irvine, Calif.) was 2-for-3 with 27 yards and a TD. Senior
J.T. Thompson (Stratham, N.H.) paced the receiving corps with four catches for 42 yards, while
Eric Spicer (St. Mary's, Ohio) finished with 45 yards and a TD reception. Newell added a touchdown catch for his second score of the night.
Senior
Jared Swenson (Seymour, Wis.) scored 11 points in the game, splitting the uprights with a pair of field goals and adding five extra points.
Neither team was able to in the first quarter, but Navy capped a 10-play drive just three seconds into the second quarter with a 36-yard field goal by Swenson. The field goal sparked a 32-point quarter for the Mids to give the home team control of the game. Chmiel pushed the advantage to double-digits, calling his own number and running it in from 10 yards out. On the ensuing kickoff, Alderson Broaddus fumbled and Newell picked up the loose ball, returning it 25 yards for the special teams score. The Midshipmen converted a two-point attempt as
Caiden Groff (Bennington, Neb.) caught a pass from
Jacob Hudson (Wilmington, Del.) to extend the lead to 18-0. With 5:32 to play in the quarter, Champion punched it in from two-yards out. The Mids closed out the half with a 38-yard pass from Foss to Spicer to go up 32-0 at intermission.
In the second half, Navy tacked on seven points in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth. In the third, Totta scampered 34 yards in for the score to extend the lead to 39-0. Swenson drilled a 41-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to give the Mids a 42-0 advantage. Newell capped off the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown reception from Leong with just over three minutes to play in the game to provide the final margin of 49-0.

Over the past four seasons, the senior class has amassed a 26-4 (.867) overall record with three victories over rival Army, including a pair of N-Star wins. In addition, the Mids won the 2018 Collegiate Sprint Football League Championship and are slated to play in the 2019 CSFL title game.
Navy returns to action next Friday as the Midshipmen play in the CSFL Championship for the second consecutive season. The Mids will face a familiar foe as they take on Army West Point (6-1, 4-0 CSFL-North) at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
