ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Former women's lacrosse athlete Lindsay Rheiner Carrick ('15) clocked a time of 2:43.43 in the Military World Games marathon in Wuhan, China to qualify for the Olympic Marathon Trials.

"I'm humbled and honored to have represented the Naval Academy on the lacrosse field and in the Marine Corps in various races," Carrick said. "The prospect of competing for Team USA in any capacity is overwhelming."

"I've been blessed with an incredible group of family and friends who go out of their way to be there for me, as both a physical presence and a support system. The Navy women's lacrosse team and alumni, including parents of players, never fail to celebrate even the smallest of victories such as achieving a personal best. Running sub-2:45 recently would never have been possible without the backing and encouragement of all associated with Navy women's lacrosse."

The World Military Games were held Oct. 27, the same day as the Marine Corps Marathon, where a year before Carrick finished third, second among members of the military, and earned her spot on the team that traveled to China.

In 2018, Carrick, who lettered for the Midshipmen in women's lacrosse in 2014 and 2015, was named Semper Fit Athlete of the Year. The Marine Corps Athlete of the Year is awarded to one male and one female active duty Marine each year. The winners are chosen based on their athletic skills and how well they embody Marine Corps values.

The 2020 Olympic Trials for the marathon will take place in Atlanta, Ga. on Saturday, Feb. 29.

"People wonder why anyone would want to run 10+ miles a day," Carrick stated. "I do it to challenge my preconceived limits, out of curiosity, and for the love of fitness; but more so to be able to represent those who mean so much to me. I'm beyond excited to bring my story and biggest supporters to Atlanta."
