WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Navy men's and women's track and field team were edged by rival Army West Point in the annual Army-Navy Indoor Star Meet as part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. The women's team fell by one point, 89.5-88.5, while the men's team were outscored 100-81.
"Obviously, the goal is to win and we didn't do that so we are disappointed," Director of Navy Track and Field
Jamie Cook said after the meet. "We have the conference meet, which we are hosting, in two weeks so we have to regroup and get ready to host that. Overall though, we had some good individual performances, but I am not going to make any excuses. They beat us today. We just have to regroup and get better."
The women's team received maximum points in four events – 400m dash, 500m dash, pole vault, and long jump, while also claiming the 4x400m relay. In addition, the women claimed first place in the triple jump and the shot put. The men's team earned maximum points in three events – 1,000m run, pole vault, and weight throw, while earning first place finishes in the 400m dash and the 1-mile run.
