Song Featured on USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List

Song is one of 40 amateur baseball players from across the country named to the watch list

DURHAM, N.C. – After being selected to the Preseason Watch List in February, Noah Song (Sr., Claremont, Calif.) has returned to USA Baseball's Golden Spike Watch List as the organization released their midseason list this week.

Song is one of 40 amateur baseball players from across the country featured on the Golden Spike Midseason Watch List. The senior becomes the second player in program history to earn a spot on the midseason list as Luke Gillingham was on the 2016 midseason watch list and Gillingham was a 2015 semifinalist for the award.

This season, Song continues to improve on his stellar numbers from a year ago. He leads the country with 99 strikeouts and he has recorded at least 10 strikeouts in seven of his eight starts this season. Song is 6-0 on the season and has a 1.54 ERA in 52-2/3 innings of work, where he only allows the opposition to hit just .164 at the plate.

Along with leading the nation with 99 strikeouts, he leads the country with 16.92 strikeouts per nine innings and four complete games. Song's six wins are tied for 10th in the country and he ranks 19th in the NCAA with 4.96 hits allowed per nine innings, to go along with the 27th-best ERA in the nation at 1.54.

During his senior season, Song has been named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week four times and has garnered three National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball this spring.

In this career, Song leads the Navy baseball program record books with 366 strikeouts and broke a 58-year old record for career strikeouts this season on the road against Lafayette on March 30. Song also holds the Patriot League for most strikeouts in a career. Song leads the Navy record books for most games started with 48 and he is third all-time with 293 innings pitched. The native of Claremont, Calif., is also two victories away from tying Chuck Davis' record of 29 career wins.

Song holds a career ERA of 2.52 in 52 appearances and 48 starts. He has compiled a record of 27-12 and has 12 complete games along with seven shutouts in his career. Song is currently holding batters to a .164 batting average this season to lower his career opponent batting average to .194.

The midseason watch list features 40 of the nation's top amateur players from the high school and college ranks and includes 21 athletes who have played their way onto the watch list since the preseason list was announced on February 5. Last season's Golden Spikes Award winner, Andrew Vaughn from the University of California, Berkley headlines the group.

Since 1987, USA Baseball has honored the top amateur baseball player in the country with the Golden Spikes Award. Following the first-ever presentation of the Award to Bob Horner of Arizona State, the Golden Spikes Award has been presented each year to the player who exhibits exceptional athletic ability and exemplary sportsmanship.

The list of semifinalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award will be released on May 15.

Navy is back on the road this weekend as it plays a three-game series in Bethlehem, Pa., against Lehigh on Saturday and Sunday.
