Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Army West Point in Star Game

Opening draw for the women is slated for 1:00 p.m.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse team (10-3, 4-1 Patriot League) hosts rival Army West Point (10-3, 3-2 PL) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The game, which is part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA, is the first game of a doubleheader with the Navy men's lacrosse team.
 
Opening draw for the women is slated for 1:00 p.m., while the men's game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Both games will be televised on the CBS Sports Network, while also on the radio on 1430 AM / 99.9 FM WNAV. Live stats will be available throughout the games.
 
All-Time Series
The game between Navy and Army West Point will mark the fourth meeting between the two programs. The Midshipmen lead the all-time series, 3-0 (1.000).
 
On April 14, 2018, Navy posted a 20-7 victory over Army West Point at Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y. The game marked the first time in women's lacrosse that the Midshipmen and Black Knights competed against each other as part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA.
 
Navy Athletics took the 2018 Star Series from Army, 13-9-2. Navy is now 20-1-1 over the last 22 years against Army in the Star Series.
 
Entering the weekend, Navy has an 11-9 advantage in the overall 2019 Star Series with four contests (women's lacrosse, men's lacrosse, men's tennis, and baseball) remaining.
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
This season, Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) leads the team with 81 points, scoring team-best 44 goals and boasting a team-high 37 assists. Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) is second with 35 points (21g 14a) ahead of Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.) and Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) who have 33 points (25g 8a) and 31 points (25g 6a), respectively. Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) have also eclipsed 20 points. Roelofs has netted 20 goals with five assists for 25 points, while Victory has been balanced with 12 goals and 11 helpers for 23 points.
 
Roelofs leads the team with 72 total draws, while Heyward is second with 53. Harris is third with 45, and O'Sullivan rounds out the double-digit draws with 25. Heyward, Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.), Marina Lazarides (Westminster, Md.) and O'Sullivan pace the team in caused turnovers. Heyward and Valenti are tied with the team lead with 18 apiece, while Lazarides is next with 11. O'Sullivan rounds out the double-digit CTs with 10.
 
Defensively, goalie Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has logged just under 640 of the 780 minutes between the pipes for the Midshipmen. This season, she is 9-3, including a pair of victories over ranked opponents (No. 19 Towson, No. 23 Georgetown). The senior has made 70 stops and is second on the team with 30 ground balls, while adding nine caused turnovers. Valenti paces the team with 33 ground balls.
 
Scouting the Opponent
Army West Point enters the week with a 10-3 (.769) overall record, including a 3-2 mark in Patriot League play. Army is currently tied for fourth in the conference with Colgate. The Black Knights and Raiders play against each other on Wednesday in Hamilton, N.Y.
 
The Black Knights have a trio of players who have 40 or more points on the season. Samantha Stewart leads Army West Point with 43 points on 28 goals and 15 assists. She is followed by Jackie Brattan who has 41 points on a team-best 41 goals. Caroline Raymond rounds out the top three with 25 goals and 15 helpers for 40 points.
 
At goal, Maddie Burns has seen the most action between the pipes. She has played and started in 12 games with 76 saves and 97 goals allowed. Burns is 8-1 on the year. Hannah Slomkowski has played in nine games at goal with one start with a 2-2 record. She has 31 saves with 54 goals allowed.
 
Last Time vs. Army West Point (April 14, 2018)
The No. 13 Navy women's lacrosse team posted a 20-7 victory over Army West Point at Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y. The game marked the first time in women's lacrosse that the Midshipmen and Black Knights competed against each other as part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA.
 
Offensively, Navy scored 20 goals on 35 shots. The Midshipmen won 17 draw controls, out drawing the Black Knights by five. The Mids set the school record, converting eight free-position opportunities on the day.
 
Navy was led by senior Jenna Collins (Clarksville, Md.) who recorded seven points on the day with six goals and an assist for her 12th hat trick of the season. Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) notched her eighth hat trick of the season, scoring three goals while adding an assist. Four Mids – Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.), Meg O'Donnell (Forest Hill, Md.), Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.), and Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) – each chipped in two goals piece., while Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.) led the team with three assists.
 
On defense, Ingrid Boyum (Herndon, Va.) picked up her 11th victory of the season. The senior surrendered seven goals on the day, while notching five saves, two ground balls and two caused. Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) led the team with five ground balls and three caused turnovers. As a team, the Midshipmen picked up 20 ground balls compared to 13 by the Black Knights. The Mids caused 11 of the Black Knights' 19 turnovers on the day.
 
Last Time Out
Junior attacker Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) tallied 10 points on the night to help lead No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse to a 16-9 victory over No. 23 Georgetown at Cooper Field. With her 10 points, Larkin now has 306 career points, making her the fourth player in Navy history to reach 300 or more points.
 
Larkin finished the game with a career-high 10 points on four goals and a career-best six assists. It was the second time this season the junior tallied 10 points in a game and the third time in her career. Larkin finished with eight of her 10 points in the second half, including all six assists.
 
Larkin was joined on the offensive end by Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) who recorded a career-high five goals to go along with an assist for six points. Four of Victory's five goals came during Navy's 8-1 run to take control of the game. The five goals marked the first collegiate hat trick for the sophomore. 
 
Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) finished the game with three goals for her fourth hat trick of the season. The junior chipped in a pair of helpers for five total points on the night. Marina Lazarides (Westminster, Md.) registered her first collegiate hat trick, notching a career-best three goals and an assist to tie a career-high four points.
 
The offensive production was fueled by the Navy defense. The Midshipmen caused 10 of the Hoyas' 15 turnovers on the night. Gil Eby (Towson, Md.) and Caroline Kwon (Cooksville, Md.) led the way with three caused turnovers apiece – career highs for both. Senior captain Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) also had multiple CTs, adding two on the night. Eby paced the team with four ground balls, while Heyward added three. Kwon, Valenti, and Anne Richter (Hinsdale, Ill.) each added two apiece.
 
In addition, the Mids were able to convert 19 clear attempts and won 16 draw controls. Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) led the way with seven draw controls, while Heyward added four, and Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.) and Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) chipped in three and two apiece, respectively.
 
At goal, Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) worked a complete game between the pipes en route to her ninth win of the season. The senior finished with nine saves on the night, while surrendering nine goals. It was the fifth time in the last six games that the Navy defense has held an opponent to single-digit goals.
