Women’s Lacrosse Hosts American In Midweek PL Tilt

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse team (11-3, 5-1 Patriot League) hosts American (6-8, 1-5 PL) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Wednesday evening. Opening draw is slated for 5:00 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available throughout the game.
 
All-Time Series
The game between Navy and American will mark the 14th meeting between the two programs. The Midshipmen lead the all-time series, 12-1 (.923). The Midshipmen are 6-0 all-time against the Eagles in Annapolis.
 
Last season, the Mids posted a 24-5 victory against the Eagles in Washington, D.C. Goalie Gab Harchelroad picked up her first collegiate victory in her first collegiate start.
 
The last time the two teams met in Annapolis, Navy picked up a 21-8 victory over American.
 
Navy has heled American to single digit goals in seven of the last eight meetings.
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
This season, Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) leads the team with 90 points, scoring team-best 48 goals and boasting a team-high 42 assists. Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.) is second with 38 points (29g 9a) ahead of Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) who has 35 points (21g 14a). Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) and Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) round out Navy's 30-point scorers. O'Sullivan has 32 points (26g 6a), while Victory sits at 31 points (14g 17a).
 
Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) leads the team with 83 total draws, while Heyward is second with 55. Heyward and Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) pace the team in caused turnovers with 20 apiece. In addition, Valenti paces the team with 39 ground balls.
 
Defensively, goalie Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has logged just under 695 of the 840 minutes between the pipes for the Midshipmen. This season, she is 10-3, including a pair of victories over ranked opponents (No. 19 Towson, No. 23 Georgetown). The senior has made 74 stops and is second on the team with 32 ground balls, while adding nine caused turnovers.
 
Scouting the Opponent
American enters the week with a 6-8 (.429) overall record, including a 1-5 (.167) mark in Patriot League play.
 
The Eagles are led by Emma Vinall who boasts a team-high 55 points on a team-best 43 goals. Casey Harkins leads AU with 18 assists. Leah Brennan leads the team with 64 draw controls, while Kendall Goldblum boasts a team-high 16 caused turnovers.
 
At goal, Fiona Geier has seen the most action between the pipes. She has played in all 14 games with 104 saves and 142 goals allowed. Geier is 6-8 on the year.
 
Last Time vs. American (April 18, 2018)
The No. 11 Navy women's lacrosse team posted a 24-5 victory on the road against American at Jacobs Stadium in Washington, D.C. As a team, the Midshipmen tied a school record with 24 goals in a game, while individually, senior Jenna Collins (Clarksville, Md.) scored her 200th career goal.
 
With the win, Navy clinched a spot in the 2018 Patriot League Tournament.
 
Offensively, Navy scored 24 goals on 37 shots, including 32 shots on goal. In comparison, American recorded just 15 shots in the game.
 
The Mids, who played 32 players in the game, had 11 people record points in the game, including four freshman that scored their first collegiate points. Jenna Collins and Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) paced the team with nine points apiece. The duo each scored five goals, while adding four assists each. Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.) chipped in six points (4g 2a), while Ellie Lecker (Ponte Vedra, Fla.), Molly O'Sullivan (Centreville, Va.), and Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) each added two goals apiece. Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) tallied two points (1g 1a), while Logan Book (Darien, Conn.), Marina Lazarides (Westminster, Md.), and Carley Seekamp (East Hampton, N.Y.) each scored one goal and Karoline Nease (Richmond, Va.) added a helper.
 
The Mids won 24 of 31 draw controls on the day. Heyward and Jenna Collins corralled nine and eight ground balls, respectively, to lead all players. The Midshipmen were perfect on clear attempts, going 8-for-8 on the day. As a team, Navy caused seven of American's 14 turnovers. Six different Mids recorded at least one caused turnover, led by Julia Collins who had two. The Blue and Gold picked up 16 ground balls compared to seven by the Eagles. Navy had 14 different players pick up at least one ground ball with Julia Collins and Blake Smith (Sykesville, Md.) leading the way with two.
 
The Midshipmen used three goalies on the day. The trio combined to limit the American offensive attack to just five goals, including just one goal in the second half. Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) picked up her first collegiate victory in her first college start. The junior recorded three saves, while allowing four goals in nearly 36 minutes of action. Harchelroad gave way to Annie Maloney (Ellicott City, Md.) who worked the next 14 minutes allowing a goal and posting a save. Autumn Koh (Glenview, Ill.) worked the final 10:15 between the pipes, posting a pair of saves and not allowing a goal.
 
Last Time Out
The No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse team jumped out to an 8-0 lead early and never looked back as the Midshipmen cruised to a 21-8 victory over Army West Point. The Mids improved to 4-0 over the Black Knights all-time, including a 2-0 mark in the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA.
 
Navy tallied 21 goals on 37 shots, including 26 shots on goal. The Mids were led by a pair of attackers. Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) finished the game with nine points, while Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) recorded a career-high with eight points. Larkin finished with four goals and five assists, while Victory chipped in a pair of goals with a career-best six assists. Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.) and Marina Lazarides (Westminster, Md.) added four goals apiece, while Natalie Irwin (Annandale, Va.) contributed a hat trick with three goals.
 
Defensively, the Midshipmen caused 17 of the Black Knights' 20 turnovers on the day. Irwin led the way with a career-high four caused turnovers. Heyward, Lazarides, Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.), and Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) each added two CTs apiece. The Mids picked up 21 ground balls on the day led by Valenti's six, while Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) tied a career high with 11 draw controls on the day.
 
At goal, Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) picked up her 10th victory of the season. She surrendered seven goals with four saves to her credit, while adding a pair of ground balls. She was relieved by Abbi Young (Alamo, Calif.) and Annie Maloney (Ellicott City, Md.) who played the final 4:21 of the game, allowing one goal.
