ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The seventh-ranked Navy lightweight crew team will look to build off of last weekend's clean sweep of Georgetown with a three-team competition in Boston this Saturday morning. Beginning at 7 a.m., the Mids will face off with the host No. 4 Harvard Crimson and the Delaware Blue Hens in a five-race slate of competition on the Charles River. The running of the first varsity eight Haines Trophy race is scheduled for 8:00 a.m.
The entire schedule of racing on Saturday consists of the third varsity eights hitting the water at 7:00 a.m. followed 30 minutes later by the second varsity crews at 7:30. Those two races will lead into the spotlight first varsity eight competition at 8:00 a.m where the Mids and Crimson will race for the right to claim the Haines Trophy. Delaware will still race in the V8 event, but are not involved in the battle for the trophy. The fourth and fifth varsity events will round out the competition at 8:30 and 9:00 a.m., respectively.

What's at Stake
Haines Trophy
Named after Bert Haines, the Harvard lightweight head coach from 1936 to 1952, the trophy is awarded to the winner of the first varsity eight race between Navy and Harvard. Raced for since 1964, the Crimson hold the series lead, 44-8 with the Mids earning ahold of the trophy most recently in 2016.
Michael Paulovich Points Trophy
Introduced into the Navy-Harvard rivalry in 2018, the Paulovich Trophy goes to the highest-scoring program. Michael Paulovich was a four-year member of the Harvard lightweight program before entering the United States Marine Corps in 1979. A strong supporter of both Harvard and Navy, he served until 2007. Harvard earned the trophy in its inaugural awarding last year.
Last Year's Navy-Harvard-Delaware Matchup
Racing against Harvard and Delaware last year in Annapolis, the Mids won two events and finished runner-up in three other events. Competitive throughout the day, four of the five races were decided by 1.7 seconds or less. The closest race was between the 3Vs as Navy edged Harvard, 6:09.6 to 6:10.0. A 0.5-second margin was all the separated the 5Vs at 6:24.4 to 6:24.9. In the Haines Trophy race, the Crimson held off the Mids, 6:04.1 to 6:05.3.
