Weather Alters Virginia Challenge Track and Field Schedule

Competition resumes on Saturday, April 20 at Lannigan Field.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Navy track and field team began competition on Friday at the 2019 Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va. Inclement weather postponed the evenings competition. Those events are rescheduled for Saturday.
 
Despite the weather, Navy opened up the competition with 14 IC4A / ECAC qualifying times / marks. The men's team posted nine IC4A qualifiers, while the women's team notched five ECAC marks.
 
All four competitors in the 100m dash on the men's side clocked IC4A qualifying times. Evan Lexo (Groton, Mass.) paced the Navy competitors with a time of 10.69, while Aaron Watson (Union City, Mich.) posted a 10.83. Demetrius Lanier (Palm Coast, Fla.) clocked a 10.90, while Austin Pierce (Dahlonega, Ga.) finished with a 10.92. In the 400m dash, Cameron Hurd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) finished just shy of an IC4A time with a 49.29.
 
In the field events, Cedric Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) registered an IC4A distance of 14.92m (48-11.50) in the triple jump. The pole vault saw Benjamin Stewart (Charlestown, R.I.) lead all Midshipmen with an IC4A height of 4.97m (16-03.50). Freshmen Charles Crispi (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Charles Dever (Thornton, Pa.) both finished with jumps of 4.67m (15-03.75). Navy posted three IC4A qualfiers in the javelin. Hayden Fox (Pittsburgh, Pa.) posted a distance of 64.33m (211-00), while Skyler Mason (Oakdale, Pa.) also toped 60m with a 62.55m (205-02). Ian Myers (Beaverton, Ore.) rounded out the javelin for Navy with a throw of 58.83m (193-00).
 
Joe Bevilaqua (Bloomington, Ill.) sits in eighth place midway through the decathlon. The senior has amassed 3,266 points. He clocked a time of 11.89 in the 100m dash, a distance of 6.06m (19-10.75) in the long jump, with a throw of 11.62m (38-01.50) in the shot put. He registered a height of 1.93m (6-03.50) in the high jump and notched a time of 53.06 in the 400m dash.
 
On the women's side, Regine Tugade (Dededo, Guam) clocked an ECAC qualifying time of 11.93 in the 100m dash. Amanda Henson (West Barnstable, Mass.) notched a time of 12.18, while Chloe Alfieri (Harvard, Mass.) finished in 12.51. Alfieri was the top Navy finisher in the 400m dash crossing the finish line in 57.02. Sydney Barber (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Lauren Heaton (Russia, Ohio) posted a 58.01 and 58.17, respectively. Phoebe Kirk (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) clocked a time of 2:14.74 in the 800m run.
 
Evelyn Berecz (Downington, Pa.) and Audrey Fernandez (South Hill, Wash.) competed in the triple jump. Berecz posted a distance of 11.60m (38-04.00), while Fernandez registered a jump of 11.36m (37-03.25). Maddi Falvey (Cypress, Texas) posted a height of 3.57m (11-08.50).
 
The hammer saw Sam Orie (Greensburg, Pa.) record an ECAC qualifying distance of 48.01m (157-06). Navy recorded three ECAC qualifying distances in the javelin. Jadyn Tiracave (Ashville, Pa.) paced the Mids with a throw of 49.19m (161-04), while Emma Foster (Poteet, Texas) recorded a distance of 48.59m (159-05). Sarah Morris (Mobile, Ala.) rounded out the Navy competitors with a throw of 42.63m (139-10).
