CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Navy track and field team completed competition at the 2019 Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va. The Midshipmen finished the meet with 50 IC4A / ECAC qualifying times / marks. The women's team tallied 13 ECAC qualifiers, while the men's team recorded 37 on the day.
"It was a very good meet for us with," Director of Navy Track and Field
Jamie Cook said after the meet. "I thought our team competed extremely well in less than ideal conditions. It was highlighted by our throwers. There were multiple PRs throughout the meet. Sean Brennan was outstanding and so was our women's javelin combo of Tiracave and Foster. We won the men's 4x400m relay with a total team effort. We will now get ready for the Penn Relays in Philadelphia."
On the women's side, the meet was highlighted by three ECAC performances in invitational events, while the men's team notched seven IC4A times in the invitational races.
Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas) clocked a time of 55.44 in the 400m invite, while
Amanda Agana (Fayetteville, Ark.) finished with a 1:02.26 in the 400m hurdle invite.
Breanna Mealer (Severn, Md.) registered a distance of 5.74m (18-10.00) in the invitational of the long jump.
On the men's side, Simon Petsch (Billings, Mont.) and Eric Hughey (Lee's Summit, Mo.) posted times of 47.87 and 48.13, respectively, in the 400m invite. John Finnegan (Spring, Texas) and Nicholas Williams (Bristol, R.I.) each notched IC4A times in the 800m invite, clocking times of 1:51.87 and 1:52.43. In the 1,500m invite, Jake Brophy (New Hope, Pa.) registered a time of 3:47.19. Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Cameron Hurd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) notched qualifiers in the 400m hurdles invite. Thompson crossed the finish line in 52.91, while Hurd finished with a 53.46.
Navy returns to action next week as the Midshipmen travel to Philadelphia for the annual Penn Relays. The meet, which takes place at historic Franklin Field, begins on Thursday, April 25 and goes through Saturday, April 27.
