Women’s Lacrosse Face Boston in Decisive Matchup

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 13 Navy women's lacrosse team (13-3, 7-1 Patriot League) takes on Boston University (11-5, 6-2 PL) at Nickerson Field in Boston, Mass. on Thursday afternoon in the regular season finale with Patriot League Tournament implications on the line. Opening draw is slated for 4:00 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available throughout the game.
 
Patriot League Tournament
The Midshipmen have qualified for the Patriot League Tournament in all 11 seasons as member of the Patriot League. The past three seasons the Mids have earned the No. 2 overall seed.
 
With a win against BU, Navy would clinch the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and would receive a bye in the quarterfinal round. With a loss, Navy would finish as the No. 3 seed and host a Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal game on Sunday, April 28, at 12:00 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
 
Loyola has clinched the regular season Patriot League title and will host the semifinals and championship.
 
All-Time Series
The game between Navy and Boston will mark the eighth meeting between the two programs. The Midshipmen lead the all-time series, 5-2 (.714). The Mids are 2-0 all-time against the Terriers in Boston.
 
Last season, the Mids posted a 23-6 victory against the Terriers at home on Senior Day.
 
Five of the seven games have been decided by three points or less, including three one-point games. Both of BU's wins came in one-goal decisions in 2014.
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
This season, Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) leads the team with 96 points, scoring team-best 53 goals and boasting a team-high 43 assists. Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.) is second with 41 points (31g 10a) ahead of Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) and Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) who have 40 points apiece. Heyward has 25 goals and 15 assists, while Victory has 17 goals and 23 helpers. Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) rounds out Navy's 30-point scorers. O'Sullivan has 39 points on 32 goals and seven assists.
 
Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) leads the team with 105 total draws, while Heyward is second with 60. With 14 draws against Lafayette, Roelofs became the second freshman in Navy history to collect 100 or more draw controls, joining Loren Generi (2012-15) who had 118 as a freshman in 2012.
 
Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) and Heyward pace the team in caused turnovers with 23 apiece. In addition, Valenti paces the team with 41 ground balls.
 
Defensively, goalie Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has logged just under 770 of the 960 minutes between the pipes for the Midshipmen. This season, she is 12-3, including a pair of victories over ranked opponents (No. 19 Towson, No. 23 Georgetown). The senior has made 80 stops and is second on the team with 37 ground balls, while adding 10 caused turnovers.
 
Scouting the Opponent
Boston University enters the week with an 11-5 (.688) overall record, including a 6-2 (.750) mark in Patriot League play.
 
Kailey Conry leads the NCAA with 4.00 assists per game, while her 5.77 points per game ranks fourth. Kaitlin Belval is tied with Emily Vervlied for the team lead in goals (28) and is one point shy of totaling 100 career points. Kelly Mathews is also approaching the 100-point milestone as she is two points away.
 
Tonianne Magnelli has been a force all over the field, leading the Terriers in draw controls (71) and is tied for the team lead with 31 ground balls. Magnelli, Mackenzie Howe and Christine Carugati are the lone Terriers who have started all 16 games this season.

The Mids have seven seniors – Paige Brigham (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), Hannah Downey (Coronado, Calif.), Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Gabbi Lubuskes (Northport, N.Y.), Anne Richter (Hinsdale, Ill.), and captains Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) and Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) – who will be playing in their final regular season game against the Terriers.
 
Last Time vs. Boston (April 28, 2018)
The No. 11 Navy women's lacrosse team posted a 23-6 victory over Boston University on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md. Prior to the game, the Midshipmen recognized their nine seniors – Ingrid Boyum (Herndon, Va.), Sarah Childress (Annapolis, Md.), Jenna Collins (Clarksville, Md.), Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.), Haley Fessenden (Los Alamitos, Calif.), Caitlin McGlaughlin (State College, Pa.), Mackenzie Orr (Berwyn, Pa.), Blake Smith (Sykesville, Md.), and Suzelle Thomas (Birmingham, Ala.) – as part of Senior Day.
 
Navy dominated the game in nearly every aspect. The offense tallied 23 goals on 49 shots, while the defense caused seven of Boston's 12 turnovers and recorded 10 saves on the day. The Mids won the draw control battle, winning 20 of 30 draws in the game. In addition, the Mids picked up 22 ground balls compared to 12 by the Terriers.
 
Offensively, 11 players scored points in the game with nine Midshipmen recording goals. Five players finished the day with multiple goals, including four who notched hat tricks. Meg O'Donnell (Forest Hill, Md.) paced the team with five goals, while seniors Jenna and Julia Collins joined Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) with four goals apiece. Molly O'Sullivan (Centreville, Va.) chipped in two goals, while Logan Book (Darien, Conn.), Orr, Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.), and Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) rounded out the scoring. Jenna Collins and Larkin each led the team with three assists apiece, while the O'Sullivan cousins, Ellie Lecker (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and Smith each contributed a helper.
 
Jenna and Julia Collins combined to win 12 draw controls with Jenna notching seven and Julia winning five. Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) and Smith grabbed four and three draws, respectively. Smith led the charge with a career-high five ground balls, while O'Donnell picked up four GBs.
 
At goal, Boyum surrendered just six goals, while notching 10 saves in the game. It is the fifth game this season for Boyum with double-digit stops in the game and the fourth consecutive game for Navy surrendering single-digit goals. Boyum was relieved by Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who worked a clean scoresheet in her four and a half minutes between the pipes.
 
Last Time Out
The No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse team scored 13 goals in a row to close out the first half to take control and never look back, posting a 21-5 victory over Lafayette afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
 
Offensively, the Midshipmen tallied 21 goals on 41 shots, including 35 shots on goal. Nine different players registered goals in the game, led by a career day for junior Caitlin Blanche (Crofton, Md.) who finished with a career-high eight points on a career-best seven goals. She was joined by Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) and Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) with hat tricks on the day. Larkin and O'Sullivan both tallied four points with three goals apiece and one helper each. Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) and Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) also added two goals apiece. Victory paced the team with four assists to finish second with six points on the day.
 
Defensively, the Mids back line caused 12 of the Leopards' 19 turnovers in the game. Ten different players caused at least one turnover, led by Larkin and Heyward who paced the team with two CTs apiece.
 
Navy used four goalies in the contest. The Midshipmen posted four saves, while surrendering five goals. Two of the five goals surrendered came on free-possession opportunities. Starter Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the victory, working over 44 minutes between the pipes registering three saves, while surrendering just three goals. Harchelroad gave way to Abbi Young (Alamo, Calif.) who did not allow a goal in nearly nine minutes of action. Annie Maloney (Ellicott City, Md.) and Maddy Bell (Winter Park, Fla.) combined for the final seven minutes allowing a pair of goals with a save.
 
The Midshipmen won the draw control battle, 21-6. Freshman Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) posted a career-high 14 draws in the game, tying for third all-time in Navy's single game records with Loren Generi (2012-15). The rookie now has 105 draw controls this season to rank sixth in a single season and eighth in Navy's career annals.
 
Navy picked up 17 ground balls, led by Larkin's career-high of four. Heyward and Harchelroad added three apiece.
 
Lafayette finished the game with five goals on 16 shots, including converting a pair of free-position opportunities. Five different players finished with goals for the Leopards. Defensively, the Leopards tallied 14 saves. Starter Quinn Lacy led the way with nine saves, but surrendered 15 goals to take the loss, while Taylor Danson notched five stops with six goals allowed.
