PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second consecutive season, the Navy men's track and field team won the IC4A Outdoor Championship. The men's team posted a combined score of 109 points to win by 42 at Weaver Stadium on the campus of Princeton University. It is the first time that Navy has won back-to-back IC4A titles since the Midshipmen won three straight in 1944, 1945, and 1946.
The men finished first among the 44 teams that scored in an event. Navy tallied 109 points to finish ahead of Monmouth (67 points), William and Mary (38), Northeastern (35), and Albany (33.50). The Midshipmen women, who had just 15 individuals and one relay team competing, finished in 16th out of 45 teams that scored with 18 total points. Albany claimed the women's title with 76 points, followed by Towson (73), Cornell (61), Penn (58), and Northeastern (40).
Navy tallied 21 All-East performances with the men's team earning 14 individuals and two relay teams and the women's team earning five individuals.
"It was a good meet," Director of Navy Track and Field
Jamie Cook said. "We competed well and competed hard. Sean Brennan was the star of the meet. He tallied 24 of our point coming in first, second, and third in the three events he competed in. To win back-to-back years says a lot about the toughness of our team. They came out to compete when it mattered, despite the fact that it was the worst weather we had all year."
"I am really thankful for the entire senior class," Cook added. "Seeing some of their careers come to an end is tough, but the contributions they have made to this team is immeasurable."
Navy had four members of the men's team win their respective event. Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.) won the shot put with a distance of 16.98m (55-08.50), while Stefano Pineda (Hockessin, Del.) won the pole vault with a height of 5.16m (16-11.00).
