Women’s Lacrosse Faces No. 11 Loyola for Patriot League Title

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse team (15-3) takes on No. 11 Loyola (14-4) for the Patriot League Tournament Championship at noon on Saturday, May 4 at the Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore, Md. The game will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network and live stats will be available.
 
Patriot League Tournament History
The Navy women's lacrosse team has qualified for the Patriot League Tournament every year (12 years). The Midshipmen have won six championships (2010, '11, '12, '13, '17, '18), while finishing as the runner-up three times (2009, '15, '16).
 
Navy is 17-5 (.773) all-time in the Patriot League Tournament, including a 10-2 (.833) record in the semifinals and a 6-3 (.667) mark in the championship game.
 
The Midshipmen are no stranger to the Ridley Athletic Complex, notching a 7-3 (.700) record at the Patriot League Tournament in Baltimore.
 
The championship game between Navy and Loyola will mark the fifth consecutive year the two teams will meet in the title game. The Greyhounds recorded victories at home in 2015 and 2016, while the Midshipmen captured the tournament title in 2017 and 2018.
 
All-Time Series
The game between Navy and Loyola will mark the 12th meeting between the two programs. The Greyhounds lead the all-time series, 8-3 (.727), but the series is even at 2-2 (.500) in the Patriot League Tournament.
 
Last season, the two squads met three times, with Loyola taking the regular-season meeting, 16-12, in Annapolis. Navy was then victorious in the Patriot League Championship Game, 17-10, before knocking the Greyhounds out of the NCAA Tournament with a 19-15 win in the second round at Ridley Athletic Complex.
 
Navy picked up its first victory over Loyola in 2017 as the Midshipmen snapped the Greyhounds' 41-game winning streak over Patriot League opponents.
 
Despite Navy's three victories over Loyola in the postseason, the Greyhounds are 52-0 against Patriot League opponents during the regular season.
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
This season, Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) leads the team with 110 points, scoring team-best 61 goals and boasting a team-high 49 assists. Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) is second with 54 points (25g 29a) ahead of Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) who has 45 points (29g 16a). Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.) and Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) have 42 points apiece to round out Navy's 40-point scorers. Harris has 32 goals and 10 assists, while O'Sullivan has 35 goals and seven helpers.
 
Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) leads the team with a freshman record 124 total draws after setting the single-game record with 18 against Army West Point in the Patriot League Semifinals. Heyward is second with 68. With 14 draws against Lafayette, Roelofs became the second freshman in Navy history to collect 100 or more draw controls, joining Loren Generi (2012-15) who had 118 as a freshman in 2012.
 
Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) and Heyward pace the team in caused turnovers. Valenti has a team-high 26 CTs, while Heyward has 24. In addition, Valenti paces the team with 44 ground balls.
 
Defensively, goalie Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has logged just under 890 of the 1,080 minutes between the pipes for the Midshipmen. This season, she is 14-3, including a pair of victories over ranked opponents (No. 19 Towson, No. 23 Georgetown). The senior has made 92 stops and is second on the team with 43 ground balls, while adding 11 caused turnovers.
 
Scouting the Opponent
With an undefeated 9-0 record, Loyola captured its sixth-straight undefeated regular-season championship since joining the Patriot League for the 2014 season. Loyola is 52-0 in Patriot League regular-season contests since joining the League for the 2014 season and won the nation's longest active win streak in conference games.
 
The Greyhounds are hosting the Patriot League Championships for the sixth-straight season and are looking for their fourth tournament title, as they won the 2014, 2015 and 2015 championships.
 
Senior Hannah Powers broke the Patriot League's tournament record for goals scored in a single game by scoring eight in a 20-12 win over Colgate on Thursday.
 
Livy Rosenzweig broke Loyola's single-season assist record in the regular-season finale at Holy Cross. With 54 this year, she passed Annie Thomas' record of 51 from the 2015 season. Rosenzweig is two points away from her second triple-digit point season.
 
Senior Taylor VanThof is also approaching her 100th career goals, as she enters the contest with 99 career goals. Rosenzweig and VanThof are looking to join the 28 other Greyhounds throughout program history to reach 100 career goals.
 
Patriot League Recognition
Five members of the second-seeded Navy women's lacrosse team were named to the 2019 All-Patriot League Team announced Monday, including Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) who was named the Patriot League Attacker of the Year. Four of Navy's five all-league selections were named to the first team.
 
Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.), Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.), Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) joined Larkin on the first team, while Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) was named Second Team All-Patriot League.
 
On Wednesday, the Patriot League announced its 2019 Women's Lacrosse Academic All-Patriot League Team seniors Anne Richter (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Valenti were among those selected. For Valenti, it is her third time being named to the All-Academic Team, while it is the first time for Richter to be recognized.
 
Last Time Out
The No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse team used a record-breaking night to post a 20-10 victory over rival Army West Point in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament. With the win, the Midshipmen advance to the championship against top-seeded Loyola on Saturday.
 
The Midshipmen tied the school record with 26 draw controls on the night as a team. Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) broke the Navy and Patriot League Tournament single-game record with 18 draws in the game. The previous Patriot League Tournament record was set by Sabrina Tabasso in 2017, while the Navy single-game record was 15, held by Julia Collins (2015-18) and Loren Generi (2012-15). The rookie, who now has 124 draws, also surpassed Generi's freshman record of 118 draws.
 
Offensively, Navy tallied 20 goals on 42 shots. Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) led the team with a new career-best nine points on the night. The sophomore scored four goals, while adding five assists – all of Navy's helpers in the game. Her previous career high of eight points also occurred against the Black Knights, as the sophomore tallied two goals and six assists on April 13 in Annapolis.
 
Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) tied a career-high with six goals in the game. With her six scores, Larkin now ranks second in Navy and Patriot League history with 335 career points. She is one back of tying Jasmine DePompeo (2010-13) with 336 points and two shy of breaking the record outright.
 
Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) also registered a hat trick on the evening. The junior finished the game with a career-high four goals to go along with a team-high three ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover. Natalie Irwin (Annandale, Va.) and Moriah Snyder (Bel Air, Md.) also chipped in two goals apiece.
 
Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished the game with six saves and 10 goals allowed. The senior picked up her 14th victory of the season to tie Elaina Ponchione (2009-12) for fifth most victories in a season.
