Men’s Soccer Concludes Preseason; Gears Up for Season Opener on Friday

Navy opens 2019 campaign on Friday at 7 p.m. against UNC Asheville

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men's soccer team wrapped up its preseason slate over the weekend and is now readying for its 2019 regular-season opener on Friday night against UNC Asheville at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility starting at 7 p.m.
 
The Midshipmen posted a 2-1-0 mark during their preseason exhibition schedule. Navy began its preseason with a 1-0 loss to William & Mary in Virginia Beach, Va. However, the Midshipmen bounced back over their final two preseason exhibitions with a 3-0 win over Siena at home and then rallied to beat Binghamton on the road this past weekend, 3-2.
 
During their first road trip of the preseason, Navy also had the opportunity to volunteer at the Fallen Heroes 5k run in Virginia Beach. Following the match against William & Mary, the Midshipmen also helped at a free youth clinic for the local kids in Virginia Beach.
 
Navy comes into the 2019 season following a four-game winning streak to end their 2018 campaign and the Mids finished tied for fifth in the Patriot League standings. Navy was picked to finish sixth in the Patriot League heading into this season.
 
The Midshipmen will play six of their first eight games at home, all coming within the first month of the season. Navy begins the year with four-straight games at home where it will host UNC Asheville (Aug. 30), George Mason (Sept. 2), St. Bonaventure (Sept. 6) and Saint Peter's (Sept. 8) at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
 
Following back-to-back road games at Mount St. Mary's (Sept. 14) and Longwood (Sept. 18), the Midshipmen open Patriot League play at home against Holy Cross (Sept. 21). Navy's final home non-league game comes against Liberty (Sept. 24). The month of September concludes for the Midshipmen on the road against Loyola on Sept. 28.
 
Navy begins October on the road against American (Oct. 2) and then returns home to face Bucknell (Oct. 6). Army-Navy Cup VIII is set for Friday, Oct. 11 as the Midshipmen travel to Chester, Pa., to take on Army at Talen Energy Stadium at 7 p.m. Navy's final weekend home game comes on Oct. 19 against Lehigh.
 
The longest road stretch of the season for the Midshipmen comes during the final weeks of the regular season as Navy plays three-straight games away from Annapolis. The first game of the road stretch comes against UMBC (Oct. 22) to wrap up the Mids' non-league slate. Navy then travels to Boston University (Oct. 26) and Colgate (Nov. 2) to finish its road schedule. The regular-season finale for the Midshipmen comes on Nov. 6 at home against Lafayette.
 
Postseason play begins on Saturday, Nov. 9 with the Patriot League Quarterfinals, which is followed by the tournament semifinals (Nov. 12) and final (Nov. 16). All Patriot League Tournament games take place at campus sites.
