CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Competing in his first race of the young 2019 season,
Jake Brophy (Sr., New Hope, Pa.) was up to the task on Saturday as he won the individual title at the Navy Invitational. The Patriot League recognized Brophy's success and named him this week's Patriot League M-F Athletic Male Runner of the Week. The honor is the fourth of his career.
In his 2019 debut, Brophy was back to performing at his normal high level from his first three years of competition as he cruised to an 8.2-second victory over the 41-man field at the Navy Invitational on Saturday. On the strength of his 24:40.0 effort, the Mids finished first of four teams with a combined score of 16 points. ECU was second with 51 team points. Brophy is now a two-time champion of the Navy Invitational as he was victorious in 2018, as well.
Brophy and the Navy men's cross country team will continue its early-season action with racing at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown this Friday afternoon. Running at Franklin Park in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, the men's 8k race is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
