NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its postseason academic awards for the 2025 cross country season and the Navy men's and women's programs were both acknowledged for their prowess in the classroom. Additionally,
Justin Mumford was recognized as an All-Academic Athlete for his success in competition at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and academically at the Naval Academy.
The USTFCCCA All-Academic team award requires programs to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater for their roster. Both the Navy men's (3.10) and women's (3.27) teams reached the required grade point average.
In order to qualify for individual All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
Mumford, who boasts a 3.94 GPA in aerospace engineering, was among three Navy runners to finish in the top 25 at the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship.
He qualified for the NCAA Championship with a third-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship. Hosted by Lehigh University and run over the 10K Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, Mumford's third-place finish tied Murphy Smith's performance during the 2023 season as the highest by a Navy individual since Jake Brophy ('20) finished second at the 2019 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional as a senior.
For his efforts, he was named All-Region by the USTFCCCA.
Mumford concluded his cross country career at the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championship at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Mo. The senior clocked a time of 30:05.1 in the final race of the season.
