Amanda Montag (Jr., Rancho Paolos Verdes, Calif.) from the volleyball team has been selected as this week's Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week, presented by Northrop Grumman.
Montag had totaled a combined 29 kills and 11 digs over her freshman and sophomore seasons. She would tally 33 kills and 17 digs during this weekend's Service Academy Challenge held at The Pentagon. She averaged 3.30 kills and 1.70 digs per set and posted an overall hitting percentage of .286 in Navy's three matches.
Montag began the season by recording 13 kills, 11 digs and a .455 hitting percentage in Navy's 3-0 victory over Air Force. It marked Navy's third win in as many years against Air Force and was the first sweep by the Mids of the Falcons in series history. She then posted 10 kills and two digs in a four-set loss to eventual tournament-champion Gonzaga. Montag completed the first weekend of the campaign with a 10-kill, four-dig performance during Navy's three-set win over Connecticut.
Navy will travel to the VCU campus in Richmond, Va., this weekend for matches Friday morning against Alabama and Saturday morning against UC Santa Barbara.
