ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Freshman
David Jackson (Cypress, Texas) was named to the College Soccer News and TopDrawer Soccer National Teams of the Week after he helped Navy to a 2-1 road win over ACC foe North Carolina State this past weekend.
Â
In his collegiate debut, Jackson scored the game-winning goal for the Midshipmen and he also notched an assist on Navy's game-tying goal. Jackson's three-point night paced Navy to its second road win over an ACC foe since 1984 and first since 2013.
Â
After trailing by a goal after the first 30 minutes of the game, Jackson delivered a high lofted cross off of a Navy corner and he found an open
Matt Nocita (Jr., Porter Ranch, Calif.) on the far post and Nocita converted on a header to tie the contest at one.
Â
Just 2:01 after the Midshipmen tied the game, Navy was awarded a penalty kick and after Jackson's initial shot was stopped he immediately got to the loose ball and put the rebound into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal to give the Midshipmen a 2-1 lead, which was the final scoreline for Navy's season-opening victory.
Â
Jackson – who also scored a goal in the Midshipmen's exhibition against Virginia – earned the start and played a total of 64 minutes in Navy first regular-season match of the year. Â
