Under the direction of 31st-year head coach
Pat Owen, Navy men's golf will play host to Towson on Saturday in the Mids' first team competition of the 2020-21 campaign. The Naval Academy Golf Course will serve as the host venue for what will be the first collegiate competition, men or women, to be held at the newly-restored course. The 18-hole dual competition is slated to begin at 11:00 am with both programs fielding 8 players with 5 scores counting.
The 2020-21 men's golf squad is comprised of 14 players, including seniors
Charlie Musto (Sterling, Va.),
Michael Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y.),
Jake Miles (Fredericksburg, Va.) and
Ward Wilkinson (Ashland, Va.). Navy lost just one player off last year's squad that placed among the top 10 in four of its seven tournaments in 2019-20, including The Doc Gimmler in which Navy won by shooting a school-record 6-under par 834.
Musto, the 2018 Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year paced the Mids a year ago with his 72.43 stroke average and shared individual medalist honors with former teammate
Thomas Garbee ('20) at The Doc Gimmler. Meanwhile, junior
Chad Deegan (Newport Beach, Calif.), who garnered Second-Team All-Patriot League honors in 2019, turned in a 72.64 stroke average and put together three top-30 finishes, including his seventh-place 2-under par 208 at The Doc Gimmler.
The Tigers, meanwhile, are anchored second-year standouts Brad Riley and Jeremy Summerson who both posted averages of 74.0 among the 13 rounds (5 events) in which they saw action a year ago. Meanwhile, junior Justin Griffith posted a 75.7 average and was Towson's top finisher in a pair of tournaments (Healthplan Mountaineer T17, Towson Invitational, T11).
* Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, local and state restrictions remain in place and the general public will not be allowed to attend Saturday's competition.
