Setting the Stage
•    Navy and Memphis meet on the gridiron for the sixth time, all as American Athletic Conference foes, when they square off on CBS Sports Network on Saturday night (7:00 pm) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game is presented by Navy Federal Credit Union.
• This will be Navy's first game in 28 days as the Mids have not played since Oct. 31 at SMU. Navy's games against Tulsa (Nov. 7) and Memphis (Nov. 14) were postponed and the game at USF (Nov. 21) was canceled due to COVID-19. The 28-day stretch is tied with, ironically, Memphis for the second-longest length of time between games in the FBS this year. The longest is 35 days (Oct. 17 - Nov. 21) by North Texas.
•    Navy leads the all-time series against Memphis 3-2, including a 2-0 mark in games played in Annapolis. Last year, the Tigers defeated Navy 35-23 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis. It was one of the Mids' only two losses on the year (the other was at Notre Dame).
•    Since 2015, when Navy joined the American Athletic Conference, the Mids have compiled a 30-15 (.667) conference record which is the second-best mark in the league behind Memphis (32-13).
•    Navy started three different quarterbacks in its first three games of the season for the first time since 1992. That 1992 team finished 1-10.
•    13th-year Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo earned his 100th-career victory when the Mids defeated Temple in Annapolis on Oct. 10. He is the 24th active coach with 100-career wins and just the sixth active coach to achieve it at one school.
•    Navy is 42-27 (.609) in the Niumatalolo era (2008-present) in one-score games (8 points or less), including 3-0 in 2020. Forty-two percent of Navy's games during that time period have been decided by one possession.
•    Navy has had 23 different players make their first-career start this year which is the third most in the country. Senior defensive end Jackson Perkins is the only player on the Navy defense to start all seven games this fall. The Mids have started four different nose guards and three different quarterbacks.
•    Sophomore linebacker Tama Tuitele is tied for the nation's lead in forced fumbles with three.
•    Navy has converted 14-consecutive fourth down opportunities.
•    Opposing kickers are an incredible 15-16 (.938) on field goals and 28-29 (.966) on extra points this year against the Mids. The only two misses were blocked by Navy -Tobe Okafor blocked a field goal vs. ECU and J'arius Warren blocked a PAT vs. SMU.
•    The National Football Foundation announced that senior cornerback Cameron Kinley is one of 12 finalists for the Campbell Trophy presented by Mazda. The Campbell Trophy, also known as the Academic Heisman, is college football's premier scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. Kinley is also a tri-captain on the football team and is the President of the Naval Academy Class of 2021.

•    The Navy Football Pregame Show with Medhurst, Miller, Mills and Wykoff will get underway at 6:00 pm on the Navy Radio Network, followed by game action beginning at 7:00 pm with Medhurst, Miller and Mills on the call.

Scouting Memphis
•    Memphis enters Saturday's game with a 5-2 record, including a 3-2 mark in the AAC. Memphis' only losses are to SMU (30-27) and Cincinnati (49-10), while earning wins over Arkansas State (37-24), UCF (50-49), Temple (41-29), USF (34-33) and Stephen F. Austin (56-14).
•    Quarterback Brady White has completed 173 of his 281 pass attempts for 2,397 yards with 23 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He ranks fourth in the country in passing touchdowns (23), fifth in total offense per game (352.1), eighth in points responsible for per game (22.0) and eighth in completions per game (24.7).
• The Tigers' passing offense is ranked ninth in the nation, averaging 342.4 yards per game.
•    Calvin Austin is the Tigers' leading receiver with 46 catches for 820 yards and 7 touchdowns (12th nationally), while Sean Dykes has 36 catches for 474 yards and 6 touchdowns (19th). Austin's 117.1 receiving yards per game ranks ninth nationally and he's had a school-record five-straight games over 100-yard receiving (previous record holder was Anthony Miller).
•    Rodrigues Clark paces the Memphis running game with 500 yards and 2 touchdowns on 117 carries, while Kylan Watkins has 69 caries for 384 yards and a touchdown.
•    Memphis ranks 10th nationally in total offense (517.9).
•    The defense is led by Quindell Johnson, who has recorded 48 tackles and broken up 4 passes, while Rodney Owens has made 41 tackles, picked off 3 passes and forced a fumble.
•    The Memphis special teams has blocked 6 kicks this year, which is the third most in the country, while its kickoff return team is giving up just 15.08 yards per return, which is 10th best in the country.

Navy vs. Memphis // Last Meeting
Sept. 26, 2019 // Memphis, Tenn. //Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium

•    (AP) Brady White threw for 196 yards and three touchdowns as Memphis used big plays to defeat Navy ,35-23.
•    Kenneth Gainwell rushed for 104 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown on the Tigers opening play from scrimmage as Memphis knocked Navy from the unbeaten ranks.
•    Malcolm Perry led the Midshipmen with 82 yards passing and 91 yards rushing. He ran for two touchdowns and threw for another. Keoni-Kordell Makekau rushed for a career-high 101 yards for Navy.
•    The game was a contrast in styles with Navy grinding out yards and maintaining possession, while Memphis capitalized on big plays. The Tigers scored on long runs, a 99-yard kickoff return by Gabriel Rogers and the trio of touchdown passes from White.
•    After Navy took a 20-7 lead, Memphis scored three unanswered touchdowns to pull away in the second half.
•    During the first half, the Memphis defense, which entered the game allowing opponents an average of 226 yard, was mystified by Navy's triple option. The Midshipmen grabbed chunks of yards in the rushing game, while Perry kept the Tiger defense off balance with occasional passes, including a 17-yarde scoring toss to Chance Warren for an early lead.
•    It was the Navy defense that initially was living up to its billing, stifling the Memphis offense. Even when Memphis reached the red zone, a fumble stalled the drive. Penalties and a missed field goal only contributed to the Memphis woes as the Tigers collected only 98 yards of offense, including Gainwell's opening burst.

AAC Conference Record Since 2015
•    Since joining the American Athletic Conference in 2015, Navy has compiled an overall conference record of 30-15 (.667), shared a West Division title in 2015 and 2019 and won the West Division outright in 2016.
• Navy's 30-15 cumulative record in the AAC is the second-best record within the league.

This Date In Navy Football History
•    Navy is 6-8-1 all-time in games played on Nov. 28, with all but three of those games against Army. Navy last played on Nov. 28 in 2014 and came away with a thrilling 42-40 win over South Alabama.

Navy's Path to the AAC Championship Game (two-team tiebreaker scenarios only)
•    The top two teams will play in the American Athletic Conference Championship game on Saturday, Dec. 19 at the home of the highest remaining seed.
•    The Mids enter the weekend tied for fourth with Memphis and Houston with a 3-2 record.
•    Navy needs to defeat both Tulsa and Memphis to finish with a 5-2 record (.714).
•    Navy would also need Tulsa to lose to either Houston or Cincinnati to finish 6-2 in conference play. Because the two teams did not play the same number of games but have the same number of losses, Navy would be ahead of Tulsa based on head-to-head results.
•    Navy needs SMU to lose at least one of its remaining games at East Carolina or at home vs. Houston. If SMU goes 1-1, it would finish 5-3 and the Mids would be in front of the Mustangs due to one less loss and the better winning percentage.
•    Navy needs Houston to lose one more game against Tulsa, at SMU or at Memphis to finish 5-3 and finish behind Navy for the same reason as SMU above.

AAC Notebook
•    Cincinnati and Tulsa continued to score impressive wins to remain atop the American Athletic Conference standings as each overcame a fourth-quarter deficit to win in Week 12.
•    Cincinnati is one of four teams nationally that is undefeated after at least 8 games after the Bearcats improved to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in The American with a 36-33 victory at UCF. Cincinnati trailed 25-22 in the fourth quarter, but QB Desmond Ridder delivered a touchdown run and a touchdown pass in the final 15 minutes as part of his 4-TD day, while he effectively ended the Knights' hopes for a late score by engineering a 10-play, 57-yard drive that ended on the 1-yard line with only one second remaining.
•    Ridder accounted for 395 yards of total offense as he threw for a season-high 338 yards with 2 touchdowns and added 57 rushing yards with 2 TDs on the ground. Ridder has accounted for 22 touchdowns (10 passing, 11 rushing) in Cincinnati's last 5 games and has accounted for at least 4 TDs in each of the last 4 contests.
•    The week started with what might have been the most exciting game of The American's season as Tulsa once again rallied from a double-digit deficit to remain unbeaten in conference play. The Golden Hurricane trailed Tulane 14-0 into the fourth quarter, but third-string QB Davis Brin and standout LB Zaven Collins delivered a wild 30-24 win against the Green Wave in double-overtime at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
•    Tulsa appeared to be on the ropes as Tulane used a pair of third-quarter scores to seemingly break open what had been a scoreless game at halftime, and Tulsa saw its first two quarterbacks leave the game with injuries. But Brin gave the Golden Hurricane the spark its offense needed as he put Tulsa on the board with an 18-yard touchdown run and passed for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns after entering the game on the last series of the third quarter. His second TD was a 37-yard Hail Mary to WR JuanCarlos Santana on the last play of regulation to force overtime.
•    Collins delivered the big play in OT — a play being called the "Pick 96" in Tulsa. With Tulane at the 3-yard line on its overtime possession, Collins intercepted a pass at the 4 and broke free for a 96-yard touchdown to end the game, capping a day in which he also had a game-high 15 tackles. It was the second-consecutive game in which Collins delivered the clinching interception. Tulsa, which didn't score in the first-three quarters, scored 30 points after the start of the fourth period to improve to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in The American.
•    East Carolina went on the road to get a 28-3 victory against Temple Saturday in Philadelphia as WR Tyler Snead finished with 244 all-purpose yards and a pair of long touchdowns. Snead had 3 receptions for 75 yards and a TD, while he had 111 yards on kickoff returns, including a 95-yard touchdown, and 58 yards on 5 punt returns.
•    Memphis improved to 5-2 as the Tigers rolled to a 56-14 win against Stephen F. Austin at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Memphis outscored the Lumberjacks 36-0 in the second half as QB Brady White threw for 269 yards and his school-record 82nd career touchdown and WR Calvin Austin III had 10 catches for 173 yards, setting a school record with his fifth straight 100-yard game
