ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy baseball (6-1) hits the road to start its week as the Midshipmen travel to Dover, Del., for a midweek matinee against Delaware State (2-4) on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Soldier Field.

The Midshipmen have won their last six games, which was highlighted by their first sweep over service academy rival Air Force over the weekend.
Zach Stevens led the charge for Navy this past week as the sophomore went 9-for-14 at the plate and slugged 1.357 as the Midshipmen went 4-0 on the week. He finished with multiple hits in each game last week with five doubles, a triple and a home run, while driving in four runs.

Stevens and
Zach Biggers have fueled the Navy offense during the early portion of the season. Stevens is hitting .440 for the season and has a 1.080 slugging percentage for the Midshipmen. Biggers -- who hit a walk-off single against Air Force in the 10th inning to secure the sweep on Sunday -- has a .333 average with 10 hits and five RBIs on the season. As a team, Navy is hitting .268 overall with a .397 slugging percentage and a .392 on-base mark.

Navy's pitching staff has found its groove and has lowered its ERA to 3.71 overall after posting a 1.67 ERA over its last six games. The Midshipmen have racked up 71 strikeouts in 63 innings of work to start the year.
Charlie Connolly has paced the starting rotation with 19 strikeouts in 12-1/3 innings to go along with a 1.46 ERA. Out of the bullpen,
Colin Jones has made five relief appearances going 1-0 with one save. In 7-1/3 innings of work, he has allowed just three hits and two unearned runs to go along with 10 strikeouts.

Delaware State comes into the midweek bout with a 2-4 record and has won back-to-back games after starting the year dropping its first four games. The Hornets first beat Massachusetts in the second game of a three-game set, 1-0, and then won the series with a 6-3 win in game three. Delaware State has posted a .163 batting average on the year with Michael Carrington and Miguel Rivera leading the way with four hits apiece while Rivera has a team-best four RBIs.

On the mound, the Hornets have combined for a 6.70 ERA in 47 innings of work to go along with a 27:34 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Chandler Fitzgerald and Austin Warrington notched the two wins for Delaware State and Fitzgerald also picked up the save. As a staff, the Hornets have allowed their opponents to hit .296 at the plate with 16 extra-base hits.

In last year's meeting between Navy and Delaware State, the Midshipmen earned an 11-3 home win over the Hornets. Navy created separation late in the game with a six-run eighth inning and Biggers paced the Navy offense going 3-for-4 with three RBIs on the day. In the all-time series, Navy leads Delaware State with a record of 25-6-1 and the Midshipmen have won the last 10 meetings.
