Brophy Breaks Four-Minutes in the Mile to Set Navy Track and Field Record
Navy track and field distance runner
Jake Brophy (New Hope, Pa.) clocked a new school record time of 3:59.98 in the one-mile run at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass. He is the first Midshipmen to post a sub four-minute mile in program history. In addition, the time was the best time in the Patriot League this season and eighth fastest in NCAA Division I. He broke the previous school record, 4:00.77, set by Steve Schroeder in 2016 by 0.79 seconds, while beating his previous best time (4:04.06), which he set earlier this year, by 4.08 seconds. Brophy finished sixth overall and second among collegiate athletes.
Track and Field Freshmen Pole Vaulters Collect Patriot League Weekly Honors (Feb. 4, 2020)
Charlene Morke (Isanti, Minn.) and
Jack Haller (Cumming, Ga.) garnered three Patriot League weekly accolades for their efforts in the Navy Invitational II last weekend. Morke was selected as the Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week, as well as the Female Rookie of the Week, while Haller claimed Male Rookie of the Week distinction.
Morke matched her career-best mark by clearing 4.00m (13-01.50) in the pole vault to capture first place in the event at the Navy Invitational II. The freshman is the second student-athlete in program history to reach 4.00m in the pole vault and the first to accomplish the feat more than once. The four-time rookie of the week ranks 50th in NCAA DI this season in the pole vault.
Haller posted an IC4A-qualifying mark in the pole vault by clearing 4.95m (16-02.75) to win the competition at the Navy Invitational II. The Cumming, Ga. native bested his own PR by 0.09m and topped the Mids' best performance of the year by 0.07m. Haller's 4.95m vault is the second-best mark in the Patriot League this season.
