ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The brief spring break trip to North Carolina for the Navy men's tennis team came to an end Tuesday with the Mids (16-8) dropping a 5-2 decision at Davidson (9-4) and a 6-1 match at Elon (6-7).
 
"It was a productive trip despite the results," said Navy head coach Chris Garner.  "We were able to get experience playing outside and every player had competitive matches.  These matches will help us later in the season."

Davidson began the match against Navy by winning at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles by the identical score of 6-3 to claim the doubles point.  Five of the six singles matches between the teams would be extended into three sets, with the Wildcats winning the first three matches to finish to clinch the victory.
 
Winning matches for the Mids were Andrew Ton (Jr., Milpitas, Calif.) at the No. 1 flight and Jake Fishkin (So., Baltimore, Md.) at No. 2 singles.  Ton posted a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles and Fishkin tallied a 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 flight.
 
It was a similar story in the Navy-Elon match as the Phoenix, who, like Navy, appeared in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, posted a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles and a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead.  Jack Dabek (So., Dublin, Ohio) would be the lone Mid to win a singles match as he recorded a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at the No. 4 flight.  Two of the remaining singles matches were decided in three sets.
 
Navy will now have a brief respite in its schedule until the Mids play four matches the weekend of March 21-22.  Included in that slate are Patriot League matches at home against Colgate and Bucknell.
