ORLANDO, Fla. – For the second-straight day, Navy women's tennis (16-4) suffered a 6-1 setback this time coming at the hands of Appalachian State (6-4) on Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Training Center.
"There is much to be learned from today's match," head coach
Keith Puryear said. "There were some areas today where we struggled a bit and Appalachian State played some part of that. They are a well-coached team but we must also look within and critically look at where we are both individually and collectively. I still feel we are in a good place. We always fight like crazy and everyone is fully committed to our team and our program. We will look to right the ship tomorrow."
To start doubles, the Midshipmen dropped a 6-0 contest at No. 3 as
Casey Accola (Fr., Winter Garden, Fla.) and
Amanda Cyr (Jr., Cary, N.C.) lost to Selina Atay and Kate Earnhardt. The Midshipmen were able to even up the race for the doubles point as
Katreina Corpuz (So., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) and

With the doubles point coming down to the top-seeded match,

Appalachian State doubled its lead to 2-0 after Atay defeated Accola in straight sets at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3. The Mountaineers then clinched the match at the top-two singles spots as Pisareva beat Klopfer at No. 1, 6-4, 6-1, and then McLay took down
Kacey Moore (So., Wellington, Fla.), 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2.
