ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior wrestlers
Tanner Skidgel (Tulsa, Okla.) and
Cody Trybus (Elkton, Md.) have been named the Naval Academy Athletic Association Co-Athletes of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman after both won individual titles at the 2020 EIWA Championship last weekend.
Trybus, the #4 seed at 141 pounds, won his first EIWA title by defeating the #3, 5, 8 and 13 seeds, while Skidgel, the top seed at 165 pounds, successfully defended his title he won a year ago. Skidgel is Navy's first two-time EIWA Champion since Joe Baker won the 133-pound crown in 2008 and '09. Trybus, meanwhile, is Navy's first 141-pound champion since Mark Conley claimed the title in back-to-back years (2001, '02).
Trybus and Skidgel, along with
Spencer Carey (174 / Sr / Ringwood, N.J.),
Jared Prince (149 / Sr / Safety Harbor, Fla.) and
Casey Cobb (133 / Jr / Kuna, Idaho) qualified (
Jacob Koser / 197 / Fr / Dillsburg, Pa. / alternate) for the 2020 NCAA Div. I Wrestling Championships slated for next week in Minneapolis, however the NCAA has announced the cancellation of all remaining winter and spring championships due to the evolving COVID-19 public health threat.
