Ulasewicz Named to All-Patriot League Third Team; Taylor on All-PL Defensive Team

Honors are the first for both players

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Patriot League announced on Friday that the Navy women's basketball duo of Mary Kate Ulasewicz (Sr., Doylestown, Pa.) and Morgan Taylor (Sr., Evans, Ga.) were recipients of postseason league honors. Ulasewicz, the team's senior captain, was named to the All-Patriot League Third Team, while Taylor earned one of seven spots on the Patriot League All-Defensive Team.

A four-year member of the program, Ulasewicz has developed from a walk-on role player best known for her energy and grit off the bench into the Mids' team captain and starting point guard as senior in 2019-20. After seeing a combined 50 games as a reserve her first three seasons, she has played in and started all 29 games for Navy as a senior, the only such player on Navy to do so this year. As the season has progressed she has taken on and thrived as the team's point guard and go-to scorer as she has eight games with five or more assists and 12 games with 10 or more points, including three with 20 more points. Ulasewicz is currently the ninth highest scoring in Patriot League action with a 12.4 points per game average in 18 games versus league opposition. Additionally, in league play she ranks seventh with 1.8 made three-pointers per game and tenth with both 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game averages.

Taylor was acknowledged as one of the top defenders in the Patriot League for her role as Navy's stopper. An athletic defender, who regularly matched up versus the top scorer on the opposing team, Taylor used her physicality and instincts to contain her opponent. Statistically, she finished fourth in the Patriot League with a 1.6 steals per contest average (44 over 27 contests). Appearing in 27 games with 26 starts, Taylor recorded at least one steal in 23 of those games, including thefts in all 17 of her appearances in Patriot League play. A few of her best single-game outputs came at Maine (Nov. 24) with five steals, versus Holy Cross (Jan. 4) with four steals and against Boston University (Jan. 22) when she grabbed three steals.

The league's head coaches, who could not select their own student-athletes, voted on the awards.

Navy will begin Patriot League postseason action on Saturday with a first round matchup at American. Tip-off between the tenth-seeded Mids and seventh-seeded Eagles is set for 2 p.m. at Bender Arena in Washington.
