NEW ORLEANS – Navy track and field had five student-athletes –
Jake Brophy (New Hope, Pa.), Audrey Fernandez (South Hill, Wash.),
Thomas Johnstone (Los Gatos, Calif.), Sam Orie (Greensburg, Pa.), and
Tommy Reeder (Kiln, Miss.) – named All-Academic by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In addition, the Navy men's team was one of 199 men's programs honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met the following athletic standards:
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
In order to be in contention for team recognition, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
Brophy (1-mile Run), Fernandez (Triple Jump), Johnstone (Heptathlon), Orie (Weight Throw), and Reeder (Weight Throw) each qualified during the indoor season, ranking in the top 96 in their respective individual events.
