Trybus Selected to Lead 2020-21 Navy Wrestling Team

Reigning 141-pound EIWA Champion and rising senior Cody Trybus (Elkton, Md.) has been selected by a vote of his peers to serve as captain of the 2020-21 Navy wrestling team.

"Some of my closest friends and role models were my team captains the past three years, and it is such a compliment and honor from my teammates to be selected into this position," said Trybus. "We have a strong senior class full of leaders that I know I can count on not only to have my back as captain, but to impact the team through their own humble leadership. Navy wrestling is in a great position with our new coaches and the type of character we have on our team. I am excited to lead the charge this year to find success at the highest level of our sport and to bring the Star back to Annapolis."

Trybus, a three-year letter winner and two-year starter (133 Fr // 141 Jr), paced the Mids a year ago with his 25-9 record (9-5 dual) at 141 pounds. He closed out the year by winning his final nine matches - five duals, including a spectacular 3-1 sudden victory over Army's Corey Shie in the annual Star Match, and four matches at the EIWA Championship to claim his first conference title. Trybus is Navy's first 141-pound EIWA Champion since All-American Mark Conley won back-to-back crowns in 2001 and '02. Additionally, he and Tanner Skidgel marked the first Navy tandem to win EIWA titles since 2005 when Peyton Walsh and Jadaen Bernstein both won crowns.

The EIWA Championship was one of three individual crowns he won over the course of the season, also winning the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial and All-Academy Championship.
