ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy head women's lacrosse coach
Cindy Timchal announced today that she has promoted
Kelly Devlin to Associate Head Coach.
Devlin joined the Navy program as a volunteer assistant coach during the fall of 2017 and was hired as a full-time assistant during the summer of 2019. She began her coaching career working with the Mids' goalies and now focuses on the offensive attack.
"I'm so grateful to Coach Timchal and Mr. (Chet) Gladchuk for giving me the opportunity to continue to work with this incredible group of young women," Devlin said. "With last season being cut short, I think we all feel that we have unfinished business to take care of, and I can't wait to get back out on the field with everyone. Every player is hungry and has worked so hard this summer to come back strong and ready to go. I can't wait to start working with our new group of freshmen, and I'm excited to help all of our athletes reach new heights."
"I am really excited for Kelly," Timchal stated. "She has done an amazing job over the past few years. She is very passionate and loves the game of lacrosse. Kelly brings tremendous energy to our team. Her dedication to our program is incredible. As a former national champion at North Carolina, Kelly brings a championship pedigree to all aspects of our program."
Over the past three seasons, the Midshipmen have advanced to the NCAA Tournament twice with a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2018, while reaching the NCAA Tournament Second Round in 2019. Despite the shortened 2020 season, the Midshipmen finished the year ranked #21 according to the IWLCA Coaches Poll, extending their nationally rankings to 38 consecutive weeks.
In 2018 under Devlin's tutelage, the Midshipmen's goalkeepers set a school record in saves and starting goalie
Ingrid Boyum (2015-18) was tabbed All-Patriot League. Offensively since her arrival, Navy has posted two of the top three offensive seasons in school history in points, points per game, goals, assists, assists per game, shots attempted, and shots on goal.
