ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men's soccer regular-season opener that was slated for Friday night against Syracuse has been canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test within the Syracuse program and the resulting contact tracing made Syracuse unable to field a team. In its place, the Mids will play an exhibition game on Friday night at Virginia at 7 p.m.
 
Virginia comes into the 2020 season as the defending national runner-up after falling in penalty kicks in the NCAA National Championship Match against Georgetown. The Cavaliers -- who have captured seven national championships in program history -- finished their 2019 season with a record of 21-2-1 overall en route the ACC Coastal regular-season title and the ACC Tournament crown.
 
In the all-time series against Virginia, Navy holds a record of 11-4-0 against the Cavaliers.
 
The contest on Friday night is a closed event and no fans are permitted to attend the exhibition match at Klockner Stadium.
