ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy volleyball team will be back in the Wesley A. Brown Field House for the third time in six days when the Mids (7-9, 3-4 Patriot League) play host to American (9-9, 3-4) Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The match will be streamed live on ESPN+. A link to that and to live statistics from the match will be available on NavySports.com.
Accessing the USNA
The USNA is closed to all vehicles without a Department of Defense-approved identification card. All other visitors must either walk through one of the security gates or ride the shuttle bus. The free shuttle bus service begins one hour before all matches. Whether walking on or riding the shuttle bus, those ages 18 and over must present a photo identification card (driver's license) to gain access and those ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
The shuttle will depart from the blue (west) side parking lot at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Enter the lot off of Taylor Avenue (south side of the stadium). There is a $5 parking fee per vehicle. The shuttle will depart from and return to the bus stop next to the Blue Angel jet.
COVID-19 Policy
As per Department of Defense regulations, those who have not been vaccinated must wear a mask at all times when on the USNA grounds and those who have been vaccinated have the option to wear a mask while outdoors but must wear a mask while indoors. Additionally, masks must be worn by everyone regardless of vaccination status while riding the shuttle bus.
About Navy
Navy emerged from last weekend with a split of its league matches for the third-straight weekend.
Navy first recorded a 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 victory over Holy Cross. The Mids held a 44-29 advantage in kills and dropped in 11 aces while committing just six service errors. Individually,
Maggie Bodman (So., Northbrook, Ill.) hit .786 and with 11 kills was one of three Mids to reach double figures. Defensively,
Tessa Bohn (Jr., Nokomis, Fla.) grabbed a team-high 12 digs.
One night later, the Mids fell in four sets (25-13, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21) to Lafayette. Navy knocked down one more kill than Lafayette, 49-48, but also had nearly twice as many hitting errors, 31-16.
Jordan Llewellyn (So., Port Deposit, Md.) led the Navy offense with 12 kills,
Averi Miller (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) dished out 40 assists and had a team-best five blocks and
Kimberly Lynch (Sr., Murrietta, Calif.) recorded 17 digs.
Navy's second match this week will be a Saturday afternoon contest at Holy Cross.
Non-League Schedule
The five non-Patriot League opponents Navy lost matches to have combined for a record of 59-20 (74.7%). Eight of those 20 losses were to teams holding a national ranking at the time of the match.
About American
American makes the short drive to Annapolis after splitting a pair of five-set matches last weekend. The Eagles first won at Lehigh and then lost at Army. The final score of the fifth set of each match was 15-11.
Navy and American have each lost to Lafayette, Loyola and Army and beaten Holy Cross and Bucknell. Navy lost in five sets to Lehigh and defeated Colgate in three sets. The Eagles lost to the Mountain Hawks in five sets and lost to the Raiders in three sets.
Additionally, both Navy and American lost a non-league match to West Virginia.
This is the sixth-straight road match for American.
Navy and American split the two 2021 spring matches between the teams. The road team won each match.
Records in Close Sets
American has posted a 7-10 record in sets decided by less than five points during the Patriot League season. This includes a 5-6 record in sets decided by either two or three points.
Navy's record during the league campaign in sets decided by no more than five points is 5-8, and its mark in sets decided by either two or three points is 2-4.
Nearly 70 percent (68%) of American's sets have been decided by no more than five points and over half (52%) of Navy's sets have been decided by five or fewer points.
