Men’s Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at Loyola

The Navy men’s soccer team fell on the road to Loyola, 2-0, in a Patriot League contest Saturday.

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Navy men's soccer team fell on the road to Loyola, 2-0, in a Patriot League contest at the Greyhound's Ridley Athletic Complex Saturday.

With the loss, the Midshipmen saw their four-game win streak come to an end, falling to 9-2-1 overall with a 4-2-0 mark in Patriot League play, while Loyola improved to 6-5-2 overall with a 4-2-0 record in league play.

"I am disappointed with the result, but not our performance," said head coach Tim O'Donohue. "We outplayed them for most of the match. The first goal came against the run of play, they are a good team and the conditions were not ideal. We will come back from this stronger."

The Midshipmen opened the contest on the attack, with Jason Aoyama (So., Narberth, Pa.) tallying a pair of shot attempts in the 12th minute that were stifled by the Loyola backline.

The Greyhound offense would take advantage of the opportunity afforded by the effort of their defense, taking a one-score lead in the 20th minute on Daniel Tshiani's third goal of the season.

Navy would settle in defensively following the score, limiting Loyola to just four shot attempts through the remainder of the first half. The Greyhound defense matched the effort of the Midshipmen, turning away two shots on goal and a pair of corner-kick attempts to maintain their 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Midshipmen carried their strong defensive effort into the second half, forcing wide another three Loyola shot attempts, one being on goal, along with defending a corner-kick try in the 83rd minute.

However, Navy continued to have its offensive opportunities compressed by the Greyhounds who limited the Mids to four shots in the second half.

Clinging to a one-score lead in the final minute of play, Justin Ingram converted a penalty-kick try at the 89:52 mark to secure a 2-0 victory for Loyola.

The Midshipmen and Greyhounds both totaled nine shots in the contest, while Loyola held a 3-2 edge in shots on goal and Navy tallied a 6-1 advantage in corner-kick attempts.

Aoyama paced the offensive effort for the Mids, recording a game-high four shots, one being on goal. Tyler Collins (Sr., Crofton, Md.) added two shots while the trio of Matt Nocita (Sr., Porter Ranch, Calif.), Sidney Paris (So., Oakville, Ontario) and JD Wagner (Jr., Medford Lakes, N.J.) tallied one shot apiece. Tyler Fahning (Sr., Victoria, Md.) allowed two goals for just the third time this season while picking up a save in the loss.

The Greyhound offense was led by the duo of Ingram and Tshiani who tallied one score apiece on their only respective shot attempts of the contest. Goalkeeper Chase Vosvick earned the win with a shutout of the high-powered Navy attack, picking up two saves over 90 clean minutes.
