CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Navy women's tennis duo of
Jillian Taggart (Jr., Fair Oaks, Calif.) and
Emily Tannenbaum (Fr., Commack, N.Y.) completed play Friday at the ITA Super Regional Championship hosted by Virginia in Charlottesville.
The pairing earned a bid to the Super Regional Championship after advancing to the semifinal round of the singles competition at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship hosted in Annapolis earlier this month.
"To make it here and compete with the top-32 players in the region is an accomplishment that can't be understated," said head coach
Keith Puryear. "I think both will grow from having earned their way here and from the competition today.
"Coach Ale and I are looking forward to the ladies taking this quality experience they garnered and using what they learned moving forward."
Tannenbaum took on Daria Afanasyeva of James Madison in the round of 32 where she fell in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). The freshman moved to the singles back draw for a matchup against West Virginia's Momoko Nagato, falling again in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).
Taggart matched up against West Virginia's Anastasia Bovolskaya in her main-draw match, falling in the first set, 6-3, before being defeated in a hard-fought second set, 7-6. The junior then moved to the back draw where she was defeated by Maryland's Selma Cadar (6-3, 6-1).
Despite dropping each of their respective matches on Friday, the Midshipmen duo has turned in strong fall records. Tannenbaum has a team-best 15 wins while Taggart ranks second on the team with 12 wins during the fall tournament season.
