Following a loss on Saturday to start the weekend, the 13th-ranked Navy rifle team bounced back on Sunday with a 4,687-4,668 victory over No. 12 Ohio State in a top-15 matchup in Columbus, Ohio.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following a loss on Saturday to start the weekend, the 13th-ranked Navy rifle team (2-2, 0-1 GARC) bounced back on Sunday with a 4,687-4,668 victory over No. 12 Ohio State (0-2) in a top-15 matchup in Columbus, Ohio.

The Midshipmen posted a total score of 4,687, setting a new season-high mark, which was anchored by 2,365 points in air rifle. The 4,687-point mark also sets a new program record for the highest-overall score in a single event, surpassing the previous high score of 4,686 points set against Kentucky last season.

"We had a great day today," said head coach Mike Anti. "I am really proud of how our team performed and their performance after a challenging day yesterday. It really shows their perseverance and ability to make the necessary adjustments. Michael Zanti had another amazing performance today to lead the team to victory while Mark Amdahl, Marleigh Duncan and McKenzie Shedd were solid in both events. Clarissa Layland shot her personal-best and our second-highest score on the team in air rifle."

Team captain Michael Zanti (Sr., Norfolk, Va.) turned in yet another stellar performance for the Mids, ranking as the top-individual performer in the event with a career-best 590-point score in smallbore along with coming just short of tying his career-best score in air rifle with 594 points.

Shedd shattered her previous best score of 564 in smallbore with her aforementioned mark of 579. The freshman's overall mark of 1,169 also set a new career-best score in the category.

The trio of Marleigh Duncan (Fr., Wake Forest, N.C.), Mark Amdahl (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) and Clarissa Layland (So., Granbury, Texas) rounded out the Midshipmen in the top-10 performers of the competition. Duncan posted an overall score of 1,166 points on a score of 577 in smallbore and 589 in air rifle, all three marks being new career-highs for the newcomer.

Amdahl continued to be an anchor for the Mids, posting the sixth-best overall score in the competition with 1,164 points. The senior set a new season-best score in smallbore (576) while posting a stellar mark of 588 points in air rifle.
